Attacked by a raccoon!

A few years back I was attacked by a rabid raccoon on Christmas day. Here's the story at http://wildramblings.com/

Hope you all had a wonderful deer season!

Great story...thank you for sharing. Hopefully the guy on the other side of the phone learned something from this.

That was a good story. I is amazing that the jokers at the CDC were going to make you handle the carcass and put it in your freezer. I thought standard protocol would be to just start the rabies treatment.

I have been there

I had to go through the whole rabies thing with a fox attack on my property, it attacked a pup of mine and I got blood on me while I was separating them. I am a big guy too and that 1st set of 10 shots sucked. So I feel for ya man.

I know what it is like trying to shoot a rabid coon. I was attacked by one while hunting in West Virgina a few years ago. It was like trying to pick up a wooly kangeroo in the scope. He got so close the muzzle blast turned him and then I got a decent shot. I was lucky and was not bitten, but it was a close thing.

A few years ago I trapped a coon in a live trap and was going to carry it to the nearby river swamp and turn it loose. It reached up thru the wire and scratched my finger as I was toting it to the truck. I called the health department and got the same story to cut the head of the coon off, place it in a Zip-Lok bag, freeze it and bring it in, or I could carry the coon to the local vet and pay them $65 to do the deed. I shot it, put rubber gloves on and whacked its head off. Luckily there was no rabies in that one.

A rabid red squirrel chased my MIL into the house once!!! Quite funny.

Thanks for the replies guys. It's good to know I'm not the only one who has experienced something like this. Seems funny now!
