savage 220 or 212 or the h&r?
 

Hey guys ive been looking at slug guns just cant decide stuck between these 3. Any input would help so much. thanks so much.

220 for sure! no comparison.

Browning is going to be making the A bolt slug gun again for 2011. Definately worth a look, but they are not going to be cheap... msrp around a grand... probably be found for 850-900ish. Still though, you can buy a pair of 220/212s for that kind of money.

I'd personally rather have a 12 gauge than a 20 as the 12 is flatter shooting and carries a heavier payload. But either will do the deed just fine.

I paid $340 for my H&R 20ga with the thumbhole stock in 2009. I shot six different slugs through it and got decent groups with most (3-5" for a 5-shot group at 100 yds). The best was Remington Accutips which gave me a 1 1/2" group at 100yds. That kind of accuracy out of a slug gun is as good as anyone can ask for.

I have no experience with the other guns you're looking at, but for the money, you simply can't go wrong with the H&R. As with any gun though, you just have to be willing to spend some $$ to find a slug that it likes. You'd be surprised how differently the different slugs will shoot out of the same gun. You can't just pick the first one you see off the shelf and expect your gun to drive tacks with it (unless you get lucky).

I have the H&R Ultra Deluxe in 20ga an I love it, I just purchased the Savage 220F I haven't even gotten the scope on it yet but I will soon

I have shot the H&R, the 220f, and own a A-Bolt.
They all have very good triggers and are all capable of very tight 100 yd. groups.
The H&R 12ga. I shot was heavy and you only get one shot.
The 220f shot very well, I like the accutrigger. The bolt and ejection system to me was not very smooth, but still a very nice piece.
The action on the 220f is not even close to the A-Bolt’s quality.
We all shoot the same slugs. Federal Barnes Expander.

Thanks guys im leaning tords the h&r a soff right now cause of the price. just cant beat it.

THis was my first year using the 220. I dropped one doe at 220 yards and hit another at 176 and she went a short distance and went down.

I paid 429 for my Savage. I can hit a 5 inch circle at 200 yards off a bench every shot.

220f hands down. accutrigger is amazing. you only need one shot but its nice to have a couple reserves just in case
