Do all deer herd?

In Canada and the northern states that have winter(snow) the deer will herd for the duration of the winter.I was wondering if this happens where there is no snow?Do the deer herd in Florida or Texas?....

if you mean bunch up into herds of many. not in Fla. you may see three or four in a bunch.I have saw five maybe three times in my hunting lifetime.most of the time it is maybe two does and there fawns.
I have saw TV shows in Fla. where they have food plots and you may see two or three bunches of three to five.

I am not a hunter I am a whitetail population reduction specialest

remember keep your back to the sun, your knife sharp, and your powder dry.

the whitetails we have don't but we have very little snow .Usually a couple does with fauns and a yearling at the most but you see that all year round .

We don't get herded up deer like that in Illinois even if it ever would snow!!! Largest group I've seen this year was a couple of weeks ago and there were 14 antlerless deer together, entering a picked cornfield

We do in my part of Illinois. I don't see 20-30 or more deer together until about January. I have been on late season(January) deer drives and saw 45 deer running together out of a small area. Usually I see a few and they are scattered during the season.

I usually see them bunch up in herds around here in Kansas. Last year, counted over 100 in one field.

In Texas, after the rut all the deer spread out. You will see a couple of doe together and maybe a young buck or two.

Geez, three or four deer in a "herd". Gosh, here in Pennsylvania they REALLY herd up. A couple weeks ago there were 36 deer in a field feeding by my house. About 10 were bucks. The biggest herd I ever saw was about 3 years ago. I went spotting before a really hard ice storm hit. I saw about 56 deer in a single field. There were about 16 bucks in the group. While rifle hunting the biggest herd I ever saw was probablly close to 20 and while archery I saw about 15 doe and 2 bucks.

Good Luck This Season: Buck Magnet
P.S. Only Chuck Adams can sit at home and see deer so get into the woods. =;^)

Winter herding does not happen here in Miss. to my knowledge. Snows are usually 1-2 inches with a big one (6+) maybe every 10 or so years. Scant food is available even in winter and the deer have to move around to find it. When I lived in Illinois, (Ogle Co.) I have seen herding during long snow periods of over 100 deer in a group. But that's not difficult for ILL. with their large deer population.

Been so hot this year if they herded up they would be sweating like a lady of ill repute in church around here.

Timbercruiser, I've noticed that also. It's unseasonably warm right now (36-37F)and the deer aren't herding. They're just wandering around, doe's with their fawns, lone does, lone bucks etc...No HERDING?!Too warm.

RE: Do all deer herd?

Last year my husband and i were out taking down our stands on public hunting ground and as we were driving out there was a farmers picked corn stuble field that borders the public hunting ground and we stopped because we saw deer, the deer were in the back of the field and it was to far to make out the sexes but we did count 48 deer in the field. It was the first time either of us had seen deer yarding in such numbers right next to public hunting grounds and we couldnt believe what we were seeing. So now when people say there are no deer left on the public grounds out there, well we know better. So far this year we have not seen any large #s of deer yarding only small groups of 4 to 7 in our area.
