I'm not saying that you're wrong, but I know that Deer & Deer Hunting had studies that showed that a mature bucks home range is normally 1 mile and 4 miles when in rut. 19 seems like a really big number.

I did a real quick rough score using the B&C sheet based of the pic. I got 209. There's no doubt this is a 200 inch deer. The bad thing is it was during the rut and based off the fact u got one pic of him leads me to believe he passed through your property. Never know though. I would pull up some google earth images and look at the surrounding properties. Good luck can't wait to see your pic on the cover of North American Whitetail.

Supaflav a bucks range during the rut can be based off of the doe ratio. If a mature 200 inch buck has 40 does with in 2 miles he doesn't have to go anywhere. Now you take 75 % of the does out and he's gonna have to travel farther then 2 miles to breed.

I know a friend who shot a nice buck in WI. it made the local paper. A guy came foward with a trailcam pic of the same deer 17 miles away 2 nights prior. Bucks can move far distances when their breeding.

i used to think the same thing..640 acres is alot of land to me, but to a deer its merely a "timeout" seat. i wish i could find that article, if i remember right, they'll stay in a 6 sq mile area until the rut, then they will take a route, up to 19 miles outside their normal routine, to make babies...i think its just nature, it helps the inbreeding process ( yes i know that every species is inbred, but hopefully you get my point.)

I can't see deer around here having to go too far during the rut. The deer population up here is ridiculous so I cant believe he'd have to go too far to find a doe. And this picture was taken the weekend of thanksgiving..why his neck isnt twice its size i dont know..I just wish i had gotten a picture of him straight on to get a better idea of how big he really is
