How wide of a trail? Do you mean like a lane?

I've had the most success hunting cutover in the morning here in AL. Deer will often be moving in to bed down, so hunting the edges can be pretty effective.

And like others have said, it will end up being pretty thick by next year. If you can, cut shooting lanes during the summer. If you've got a permanent stand set up somewhere, you could cut the lanes in a "turkey foot" pattern going out from your stand. Deer will definitely use them.

As for width, a normal bushhog deck would work. Go with two passes if you want wider lanes. Just be sure to follow whatever guidelines set by your lease (if you lease it), ie, don't bushhog the young pines.
