I had a bobcat walk past my blind this past October with a squirrel in its mouth...never knew I was there. He actually paused at one point and readjusted the squirrel in his mouth and ambled away. Pretty fun.

When I was a boy my dad caught one in a leg trap. I went to check the trap with him. It wasn't bobcat season (and I don't remember what it was my dad was trying to catch), so he decided we needed to let it go. Trouble was, this thing was really PISSED. Snarling, growling, ears back. I was scared crapless.

My dad hands me his gun and says "go stand back over there just in case." He found a long stick and started working it in between the trap jaws, all the while this cat is biting the stick, swatting it with its paws, hissing, growling like an sob. Finally the trap pops open. My dad tries to nudge the cat but it won't move (thinking its still in the trap). FINALLY the thing bounds away, stops about ten feet away, looks back at us (giving us a giant middle finger if it could) and ambled away into the woods.

Yeah, I handed dad's gun back and there were sweat marks on it that bled through my gloves! Lol!

I didn't fully appreciate what had happened until many years later when I figured out that kind of stuff doesn't happen every day in the woods. But seeing one cornered like that and REALLY PISSED OFF AT YOU is a tad disconcerting--especially if you were just a tyke like I was at the time.

They're definitely one of my favorite animals in the woods. Then again, I love cats ;)
