Pissed Off!!!!!!!

So this morning Im sitting in my treestand and down comes a beautiful buck. I recognize him as one I have hunting all year. As he gets closer I notice half of his rack was gone. the right side is gone. All but a little nub where it used to sit beautifully on his head. At one point he was a massive 10 pointer. Now he is just a 5 and a nub. I think someone from the ORANGE ARMY got a shot on him and missed hitting only his antler. It is way too thick to have been broken off in a fight. I have been stalking this deer for since I caught him on a trail cam end of the summer. I hope he makes it to next year. I hate to see such a beautifull deer be disgraced by and IDIOT. Thanks for listening to me vent.

Trail Cam pics to some soon........I hope!

J.M.A.N. 11-29-2010 11:55 AM

good luck!

7.62NATO 11-29-2010 12:29 PM

Could be worse. The Orange Armyman could have killed the buck, giving you no chance at it. Ever.

WIbackwoodsU61 11-29-2010 12:32 PM

Yea that sucks I have seen that happen on T.V. before on about a 200" buck!

_DANNY_ 11-29-2010 12:39 PM

whats the "orange army"?

npaden 11-29-2010 01:16 PM

I wouldn't count on it being shot. I've seen numerous deer with racks broken off, some before the season even opens.

Here's one that knocked off pretty much his entire right side on my place before he was even out of velvet. His nickname is Lefty. ;)

Here's his twin brother, Righty! ;)

Both of those pictures were taken before rifle season opened in Texas.

The more mature bucks you have around, the higher the likelyhood that some of them are going to get some antler points (or their entire main beams) knocked off.

SteveBNy 11-29-2010 01:45 PM

Wow!!! Someone else saw YOUR deer and took a shot at it!!
The nerve of some hunters - what is the world coming to????

blackhawk_archery 11-29-2010 02:08 PM

I bet if you wasnt out there chasing him around and set still for a day or 2 you might have already killed the buck, there is nothing wrong with the orange army I bow and gun hunt, most of the people that you call the orange army are out there to get deer meat just because they dont bow hunt all year like you or me doesnt make them idiots.

blackhawk_archery 11-29-2010 02:10 PM

the antler could have been broken a hundred different ways, fighting,a car mirror (have seen this happen),or numerous other things.

scribbler444 11-29-2010 03:29 PM

yea I hate rifle hunting to, any idiot who can pull a trigger is in the woods. I agree with blackhawk it couldv been broken a thousand different ways, I had a massive 8 by my spot that snapped half his rack of and it seemed impossible but it does happen

Paoutdoorsman 11-29-2010 04:12 PM

2 years ago i had a similar experience, absolutely enormous buck for our area, good solid big bodied deer, first day of rifle season i was on stand and out he came i saw the one horn at first and usually i'm not a head hunter, i hunt for meet, but i got excited at the size and i was getting ready to squeeze when he turned his head and his other was broken off. It's just one of those things that happens, and i passed on the shot figuring if he survived another year he'd be a monster. Turns out after i passed on him someone shot him about 20 minutes later and i came to find he was a half rack six, upsetting, but still a hell of a deer.

Paoutdoorsman 11-29-2010 04:13 PM

i like orange army, i usually refer to them as the walking pumpkin patches.

Beezer 11-30-2010 02:23 PM

So take it anyway, it's a deer..it's meat...it's food. Less antler to chew on? So what.

x2, no matter how long you cook an antler in a crockpot it will never be as good as a backstrap, or even front shoulder for that matter.

You should not "hate" any form of hunting as long as it is legal. I know a lot of rifle hunters, myself included that hunt with rifles, blackpowder rifles, and with archery equipment depending on what season it is.

To the OP, there is no way to know for sure what happened to the buck. Someone shooting his rack off is only one possibility. Maybe he is not the dominant buck in the woods????

salmondan 12-02-2010 08:00 AM

I have killed over a dozen bucks in my lifetime (I know, not many for some of you) and have yet to get one that does not have a broken rack. The deer in my area must be some fightin' fools.

Kybuckhunter 12-02-2010 08:27 AM

You should get down and kiss the gun hunters feet and thank him for keeping the population under control for you. Bow hunting does almost nothing to control the deer herd. This is why the herd stays health and you can still have big deer. My first love is bowhunting but it makes me sick everytime an elitist bashes someone else....if you shoot a crossbow or gun you are scum to some bowhunters. Grow up and see your world isnt the only one that turns.

SchuLace 12-02-2010 08:32 AM

I see nothing wrong with gun hunting. That is what I grew up doing. My family pretty much only hunts with rifles. We do not have the time to go out and hunt for 3 months. Who is to say it was a gun hunter who shot the rack? Like others have said, it could have been many other things. You are too quick to judge.

Alex G. 12-02-2010 11:17 AM

Lol

"Orange Army" <-- now thats funny!

Ifn it werent fer dem bow hunters scarin all the dear away before the orange army invaded the woods... us gun hunters would be killin and not huntin! Oh wait... what am I talkin about I hunt with a bow and a gun! :hit: LOL

X2!!!!!!!!
BOO-HOO-HOO! Imagine that another hunter hunting YOUR woods and YOUR deer! Goofy gun-hunter, probably was so awe-struck that he aimed straight at the antlers! Theres a thousand ways for a buck to break his antlers off! Getting one shot off has to be one of the lowest percentage reasons!
BTW, I hunt with a bow also! But, without gun hunters and gun OWNERS in particular, hunting would not be legal! Furthermore, owning such a dangerous weapon as a bow would probably be illeagal, if not for the the gun lobby!:violin:

dejager 12-03-2010 06:15 AM

could have been hit by a car and it could have been broken on the road it happens alot in WI

jwsfitter 12-03-2010 08:28 AM

Ur probably right. Like I said before. I had just got home when I wrote that. After I chilled out I realized there were many more ways he could have broken it. Also sorry if I offended anyone.

Whitetailmadness 12-03-2010 05:11 PM

You think too deeply. It's a safer bet it was broke off fighting. You would be amazed at how big of a rack can be broken off in a fight.

Mojotex 12-03-2010 07:22 PM

Gosh, what a tough break.
