Killed a cripple
2 Attachment(s)
I must be gettin soft. I havent killed a spike in quite a few years but this one really got to me draggin his back leg up the ridge, so I decided to burn my buck tag and put em down before the yotes got em. Tough little guy though, put a 250gr shockwave, doing 2300fps from my savage .50, through his heart& lungs and he still stumbled 40yds on 3 legs! died within a minute though. Oh well hell eat good and I already got a decent 8 point in bow season so Im glad I did it, his ankle was broken and infected pretty bad. To be honest I actually enjoyed the hunt, poken holes in deer and watchn em drop within sight, just never get old.:happy0001:

Well done. You mention the ankle being infected. Is the meat safe to eat? I'm asking because I don't know.

Nice on if there was a time to take a young buck that woulda been the time,I cant imagine what that would feel like makes my foot hurt just thinking about it.
|
may have got him self caught up in a fence or some old barb wire.

The humane thing to do. Good job.

New to the sport here, but it doesn't take a veteran to appreciate and admire what you did...well done, very humane.

Im not sure I guess Ill find out when I cut em up, there was some puss coming out of the wound but I dont know if it spread to the rest of em. Im guessing he got hit by a car.
That would have been me. opening day 4 of them jumped in front of my truck at 5:30 am. 3 of them made it cleanly by, the 4th brushed the bumper pretty good, and ran off. Just off exit 119. A little north of the exit. Don't they have antler restrictions around there ? That was the last deer I saw all season. there're all roaming the roads, none are in the woods. |

exit 119 off rt 17. Orange County
plenty of antler restrictions, 1/2 of zone 3. 3K & 3J & a few others have antler restictions. all of Minniwaska park, and a few others. been that way for YEARS ... |
job well done on taking the young guy, definitely the right thing ta do.
|
i would think the meat would be fine since it was just his ankle that was messed up. good job

My opinion, you did him a favor. Not to mention the fact that you stated that you already got a nice 8 pointer already, so you also did the most ethical thing in my book as well. Good job, and he will be some good eating.

You did the right thing. WTG
|
You did the right thing. When I was a guide years ago, My brother or I would usually end up putting at least one down per year. The Fish and Game would usually give us our tags back if we wanted them. Most times, we'd just keep the one we had put down. I put an antelope down earlier this year and could have gotten my tag back if I wanted to but, I just kept him.

did the right thing and he will be good eatin! congrats
|
good eater!
