Fawn Question

Is it normal to see a spotted fawn mid-November?

BadCompany1 11-24-2010 06:06 PM

Ive bee wondering the same thing. I saw a few here in NC, still with spots.

In michigan that is very rare...but it may vary in different states...genetics may have something to do with it.

Depends on where you are located as to it being common. In south Bama and NW Florida where I hunt it is not uncommon to see spotted fawns in Nov.

In Iowa it is rare too, but I can see it happening, especially with some of the late coming into estrus does in January and February.

Extremely rare, but I hear they are tasty!

It happens!

It is caused by a doe being bred late.

If a doe is not bred when she is in estrus, she will come in estrus again 28 days later and then again 28 days after that.

Doe fawns usually do not come into estrus the first estrus cycle like older does but will come into estrus 28 days after that. Commonly called second rut.

Of coarse when bred late, fawns will be late.

I've never seen a spotted deer in mid-November here in Southern Maryland. That seems very strange.
