Default Small food plot for next season

So my gears are already turning for next year's VA archery season.

I am thinking of building a small food plot on an old overgrown logging trail. I am trying to keep it small because (1) I don't have big equipment, (2) I don't have a big field to put it in, and (3) it will be on club property and I don't want others finding it.

So I am thinking the trail may be about 7 feet wide if I am lucky, and I may try to do 100 yards of it. By my math, that is only about .04 acres. I will be racking, liming, fertilizing, and seeding by hand, not to mention carrying all that in on my back.

Will this be big enough to draw deer? When should I plant it if I want it to be in full swing on October 2, opening day of bow season?

I have a general area picked out which has some deer movement already, and is near a much larger field. My hope is that the deer will use this much smaller plot surrounded by thick cover as a staging area in the evening, and maybe even feel comfortable in it during daylight hours.
