Tips and tactics on getting knew hunting permission

Wanted to get everyones tips on what you do or what has worked for you when trying to get new ground to hunt. Do you just go up to the door or by phone? I've even read about writing a letter. I'm just not sure someone who you have never met would say ok by phone or letter but yet you run the risk of ticking them off if you approach at the wrong time. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you write a letter, use proper grammar...
Id like to know as well.

Ive put up ads at the local churches stating "Responsible bowhunter looking for nuisance animals to remove from your property..."
Not that exactly, but close.

Ive never went to someone house or called them to ask, so I know nothing about those scenarios.

I always used a face to face approach when asking for new land. Not only did it give the opportunity for the landowner to get a first impression of you (hoping you make a good one!). But I have found its a little more difficult for some to say no when you are standing right in front of them. I seem to be a hit with the older ladies too! Years of wooing my grandparents friends when I was younger paid off!
