trailrider, Last year my bow buck did some screwy things but my sone and I lost blood on him for what turned out to be ~50 yrds. so we started to grid search. My kid being 14 learned a great lesson that day. Kinda thick so I told him stay ~5yrds from mem he would stretch it to 10 I would reel him in and then it would start again. Anyways we found blood and when we found he was not in any thicket but layed up in a logged trees branches.

we didn't see that deer till we were a few feet away from it,

moral of the story, feet matter. you might have checked places but you could be walking right past him and not see him.
