Post Rut In The Carolinas?

I'm thinking about a guided deer hunt in the Carolina's in late December. I'm wondering if it's worth the money and what kind of chances my teenage sons will have of taking a starter buck. It doesn't have to be a monster B&C, but just something with a antlers for their first deer. We don't have the time to go during the rut because of academics and athletics so we are limited to when we can go. Do you think it's worth it? Any and all feedback will be appreciated.

I live in central NC. i wouldnt pay money to hunt in North Carolina, bottom line. I don't even know of anyone who does guided hunts here. If you're looking just to get them a buck, like a little one, I mean u can shoot them almost every day...

I would go to another state if I had the choice. I know of places in North Carolina that have big deer. They all are on food plots around game reserves. Most North Carolina deer that are big have been pumped protein. They have tall thin racks instead of broad thick racks. I live in Eastern North Carolina, where deer dont get very big in the wild. Most hunters around here kill every six pointer they see. You get lucky if someone passes up one and he becomes an 8.

I was specifically thinking about one of the guide services in north eastern NC in the Rocky Mount, or the Ahoskie area. Do you think that the chances are good for a good starter buck for a teenager? Eventually we'll get out to the mid west or the rockies for a big trophy, but right now we need to keep it close and simple. Thanks.
