Usually enough to reload the gun I'm carrying, which means 3 in the gun another 3 in my pocket for my bolt action 7mm08 and 5 and 5 for my marlin 336.
Ironically, I use the 336 in thick cover where I probably couldn't get more than 2 shots off max...and the 7mm08 in more open country where there is possibility of more shots.
So go figure. Lol.

I hunt on a mountain so keeping myself light weight is key. I put three bullets in my 30-30. I am very meticulous and patient, waiting for a shot I know is going to knock'em down, usually on the first shot. The two other bullets are for just in case I miss.
I keep one or two extra in my pocket for mercy killings if things don't go well, but I haven't ever had to take those extras out, God bless.

I carry 4 in the clip, one in the pipe plus a few more in the pocket. If I am using blackpowder, I carry 3 speedloads.
I must say, in my years of deer hunting, I only needed to reload the BP gun once and have never needed a second shot with the rifle. So I guess I carry way more than I need.
