Help me nail this buck (edited)
Haven't seen him but I have seen his scrapes and rubs. On the attached map, the purple line is the property line, the red dots are where I have seen his scrapes/rubs, the green tent is where I think he beds (SWAMP), the green dots are my planned path in, and the red cross is where I hope to take him out (plan on sitting somewhere inside of some fallen logs).
Of course I am not sure since I don't have any trail cameras, but I have a feeling that my only chance to nail him will be in the morning when he's on his way back to the swamp. The wind USUALLY comes in from a northerly direction, so my ambush point is not ideal. However, walking down the western side of the property line is not possible because the people over there own dogs who bark and will chase me, thus spooking the buck. I don't think cutting across the field and entering the woods from the east will work either, for two reasons. As you can see, the tract of woods isn't that huge, and I think he's likely to hear me come in or see my headlamp if I try to bust him on his rub line. Also, like I had mentioned, I think my only chance of getting him is when he's heading off to the swamp in the early morning. If I could catch a northwesterly wind, that would be ideal.
Anyone have any suggestions?
