what works for me and I swear by them. Go to wal-mart and by the box of 15 shells of winchesters for $9.00. 2 3/4" and I have 2 870 wingmasters 12ga and 20 ga shooting smoothbore deerbarrels. shoot them out to 100 yards off a bench and you should be impressed.

Our question is what kind of barrel ?
A field barrel, a smooth bore slug barrel, a rifled barrel ?

If its a rifled barrel I'd say go with Remington Copper sabots 2 3/4. They lay the smack down for me out to a little over 100 yards. If its not rifled then tell me how far your practicing cause 100 yards may be kinda tough to accurately hit with a non rifled barrel.

I have a Remington 870 20 gauge with a full rifled barrel and a Mossberg 935 12 gauge with a full rifled barrel.
Remington Premier cooper solids were my choice till I tried Remington Accutip slugs.
They are great.
Very, very fast and very, very accurate.
They shoot very well for me out of both guns.
I am in a 3" circle at 100 yards and I wouldn't hesitate to shoot 130-140 yards.

Try the Hornady sst sabot round, it works great in both my 24'' smooth bore and 24" rifled barrels

I shoot Federal sabots out of my rifled 870. They shoot the best out of my gun.
