I'm partial to my 50 or so year old Rem 700 in .270 cal shooting Hornady 140 BTSP cartridges. I have it topped with a Zeiss Diavari 3x12x56, good for most anything I'll ever shoot at.

For years I used a Ruger .44 mag rifle. My Father bought it new before I was born.

Last year, I got a Browning X-Bolt Hunter 7mm 08 that I use.

I really like the new gun over the .44 because of the extra punch it has.

I love to use my Browning A-bolt chambered in a .270 WSM, it's a real tack driver.

I hunt the same cover, heavy woods mostly. I have used and own all kinds of guns for deer, but have one favorite. A 7x57 on an Arisaka built to carbine length with a very short Leapers 6x40 scope. Quick handling and weighs almost nothing. I was surprised by the amount of people that use a 30.30 on this forum. I have 2 and never hunted with either of them. Maybe I should dust them off for next year.

.260 or .280 are my first choices, but will always take the .270, 7mm-08, 30-06, 7 Rem Mag, 300 WSM, 270 WSM, 7 RUM, 300 RUM or .243, LOL!

I like to use a Remington 700 chambered for the 17 Remington Fireball. Sometimes if i am hunting in an area where I might need to make a quick follow up shot I will step it up a little bit and use an AR 15 chambered for the 204 Ruger.

Love my Savage .270 witht the accu trigger! I also have the standard Marlin .30.30 that you mentioned which was one of my first guns. I rarely hunt with it but I keep it simply for the fact it's the best brush gun ever.
