I've been reading about wind and how you should hunt down wind of the deer. I've heard that deer walk with their nose in the wind to be able to smell. So, if we hunt down wind say with the wind in your face then the deer will walk from back behind you and smell you at the same time. Is this correct or do I have it wrong? Someone help please.

Deer do not always walk into the wind or always walk with the wind over their back or always walk in any particular direction relative to the wind. What is trying to be communicated is that a hunter should try to set up where deer "sign" is up wind of his/her stand position ... or if stalking, try toi keep the wind as directly in your face as practical. For sure if you are "up wind", you are going to be busted.

Buck will also walk with a cross wind that way they can cover more ground .By this i mean when the rut is in that way they can scent check for doe that are in heat .But if a deer feels threaten they will always go down wind to see if they can pick up any danger .Let just say if you rattle or grunt a buck will most times come from the down wind side ..

Here in Michigan, we often have a week or more of west winds at a time. If the deer only traveled west, into the wind, they'd all be drowned in Lake Michigan! I don't believe wind direction has any effect on where deer travel.
