That was the case with the old units ~ it is now not a problem. I am in heavy woods all the time with my Garmin Astro. I see lu=ikely grouse cover I am gone as I leave a old DC20 unit in my truck. That is half the fun to get back from where you started.

And Battery life is over 14 hrs. or better.
Carrying 2 extra AA batteries requires no real big problem in my bird vests.

I own several Garmin products for use on my dogs, in my trucks, on myself and in my boats.
