How much drop?

How much will a .243 (100 grain) bullet drop from 100 to 200yards? 200 to 300 yards? Standard Winchester factory load.

Per the ballistics on Winchester's website the only 100 grain bullet is the Power Point.

Sighted in at 100 yards it drops to 3 inches low at 200 yards and 12 inches low at 300 yards.

Well thanks, now I know where to tell my daughter to aim this weekend during the youth hunt.

It's better to shoot and find out than to guess, but 300 yards ain't too far...

i sight in my guns ( and most of my buddies guns ) 1 - 1 1/2 inch high at 100 yards, so at 200 yards your looking at less of a drop off below the cross hairs.

If your daughter is young enough to go on the youth hunt, she isnt ready to shoot 200 yards..... if you have not already gone over this stuff with her in pre-season and target shooting at 200 + then why take her and risk the animal, and risk her not enjoying the hunt over a lost animal.. something to consider.. personally with young ones id keep the shot inside 100 yards...

Depends on the gun and bullet...If shooting out to 300 yards you don't want to sight dead on at 100 yards anyway...

I sight mine in 2 1/2 inches high at 100 yards and I'm hitting about 6 inches low at 300...She is 2 inches high at 200 and dead on at 250...This is with standard 100gr CoreLokts...

If you want another good, long range bullet, try the Federal Premium 85gr Sierra GameKing HPBT...Sight in 2 1/2 high at 100 yards and you should be about 3 inches low at 300...

I can't stress enough that this needs to be verified in your own personal rifle...Through the years, I've killed deer with around a dozen different factory .243 loadings...I've seen some, when sighted in 2 1/2 high at 100 yards be as much as 6 inches low at 250...

Nope, ain't too far for some but we've had plenty of grown men miss at half that range in the field...

I've seen it happen myself :D I personally never go out without a bipod on the rifle but prefer prone on a bag where appropriate.

if you go to winchester website you can download there balistic simulator, very fun tool. I had it when I was dialing in all my stuff a few years ago
