Depends on the terrain your hunting and the shot distances. I'd use the .270 where my shots are under 150 yards and the 7mm with longer distances. As for the scopes, I would put the Leupold on whichever gun you decide to use. IMO

Overkill - what a stupid word. Sorry but true. Dead is dead period. Personally the 7 mag is probably the better set up and probably the most accurate of the 2 you have. Now don't get me wrong. I love the .270 Win. Just not in the Rem 710 (sorry).
IMO anything from a .243 Win on up is capable of cleanly taking a whitetail. So whatever fits you and works best for you, go with it. If you like the 710 better, I suggest you put the Leupold on that rifle and use it. Otherwise, use the 7 mag.

Im judging the overkill wordage by what I've seen online, just looks like the 7mag does massive damage. I need more advice, and the 710 is not junk anyone who says it is hasn't owned one. I can shoot very nice patterns with it with the cheap bushnell scope. But 7mag with 140gr's or .270 with cxp2's? and 30/30 I always carry to use for woods.

Seriously, why is this so complicated? If you FEEL like you'll NEED the 7mag, go with that. I see no reason why you can't get it done with EITHER caliber. It's not like you're taking 500-yard shots. Just pick the gun you have the most confidence in and put the scope you like best on it.
