3 Legged Buck...

I got these pictures of a 3 legged buck. My buddies and I are discussing rather it was shot off or born that way. Anyone have any thoughts to add?

We have a doe here with 3 legs, most likely shot or a car accident.

It looks like it might have been born that way.
Look at his antlers, they arent deformed any.
I allways heard when a deer is injured the antlers on one side will be deformed.
I could be wrong.
What ever has happened, he has adapted very well.
Only one way to find out, shoot him while hunting.
Good Luck.

Looks like a birth defect to me - I would expect him to have some type of stump if the leg were shot off.

That was my nickname in college.

I say it is a birth defect. IF it was shot off, what kind of gun was being used to blow the leg clean off that high on the shoulder? A 50 cal!!

Birth defect gets my vote. looks like he's doing well though.

Birth defect for here too. I would think there would have been too much blood loss if removed for any reason.

I would guess shot off, frontal shot just about blew the leg off and it probably just rotted on off. A friend of mine shot a doe early last season and he admitted he clipped the leg. Close by we had pictures of a doe later in the season that fit the description that had three legs, looked a lot like that bucks leg area.

I would say he was born that way. My very first deer only had three legs and a really nontypical rack
