Default 308 or 30-06 for Whitetail?

Ok guys I desided on the Pro Hunter now which would be the better bullet 308 - or 30-06 I have a 270 wsm and a 7mm-08. I would shoot the 180gr soft point ( I have found the high dollar bullets just let me down going back with the old school) Deer should be 300 yards or less.

That's like asking, which is better, a blonde or a redhead?? Which do you prefer??

If you were asking what would be the best all around rifle from yotes to elk, I'd say the 30.06 because of the variety of factory ammo. When it comes to just whitetails, the deer will never know the difference.

although the 308 is the better long range round pretty flat trajectory compared to a 30-06 I thought.

If you are asking if you should get the .308 or 30-06 you may as well just flip a coin. Zero a 150 grain bullet at 200 yards and the .308 only gives up about 6 yards in trajectory to the 30-06 and 100 foot pounds of KE.

Also why would you choose to use a 180 grain bullet on white tail deer? Any regular ole soft point 150 grain bullet will anchor any deer out there and then some.

Also, I assume you realize that you are simply duplicating the performance of the two cartridges that you already have????????

I know it is close to the two I have but I don't have a 30 caliber in my safe and I figure everybody needs one.

Like already said either or. Both are great calibers all around and great calibers for deer. I like the 300wm with a 165 or 180gr, but I just like 300wm's.

I know it's already been said- But your 7mm-08 is basically the same. That being said... I have 3 30-06's in my closet, so Im not one to judge haha. If I were you, and I was only hunting whitetail. I would take the .308. But I can't tell you why.... and the opinion might change tomorrow. For all practical purposes, neither holds any advantage
