As long as it's one of 15 or more rifle's available
How do you like recoil? Some can stand it; take it; dislike it intensely.
Do you have any 300 yard shots or is 75 yards in a heavy, thick woods average?
Remember, hunters carry one rifle in the woods. Five or more for use gets quite redundant.

Hunting whitetail exclusively? Not planning on stretching beyond 400 yards? Then the .30-06 is the clear choice. Wide range of options for ammo. MUCH cheaper to shoot. I've shout somewhere around 20 deer or so with and '06, it's my go to rifle. Will do the job on whitetail (and bigger) every single time, as long as you do your part.... Youre only advantage of a .300 is if you plan on hunting bigger game (Elk, Moose, Brown or Grizzly Bear) or if you wanna set up a long range rig. Otherwise... thatd be an easy decision for me to make!

I have and use on a regular basis a .270 Savage with accu trigger. Outstanding gun and its a tack driver. The .270 offers 3036 fps in a Nosler tip so its fast and flat and works well on long range. Nothing wrong with you thought on that caliber.
