I dont see where its anyones business to tell others what kind of shot they can or should take.As long as its a safe shot.I think we all need to remember we have no control over other people places or things.....let your conscience be your guide.

your key word in that post is "marksman." The only time a head shot should ever be taken is from very close range.....it is unethical IMO. Read the signature guys

I've had extensive training with a firearm(first with a Marine sniper), know the habits of many animals, including almost all furbearers as well as deer.. have taken an extreme amount of kill shots on all sorts of animals, including downing many head shot deer.

If that makes you sick, I'd be lying if I said I cared.

I know my abilities better than anyone and stick within those abilities. Why is it upon anyone to judge why and where I place a bullet? What I do, I do it well and I don't take shots perceivably that are risky. I have a rifle in my hands almost all months of the year shooting. No sighting in the "deer gun" days before the season here.

obviously you do care or you wouldn't have posted that comment. this is what you are trained to do, and I admire that, most hunter's only shoot a few days prior to the season to make sure there gun is on. I also shoot year round. which will lead me to my next post.

I am shooting a T/C pro hunter 150grains pyrodex with a 300 grain shockwave, I am good to 200yds and practice there regularly. yeah the bullet drift got me by 6 inches on that shot, I only lunged the deer and it went 50 yds. yes I feel head shot is unethical, but that's my opinion. I also don't like using dogs to run deer.

A man asked a question about a subject, didn't know someone would get smashed for voicing his opinion, maybe it's the way I word things but I like to explain why I feel that way vs just saying no not the best shot

Shooting an inappropriate round for the game is unethical. Shooting too far, at moving game, with poorly sighted equipment is unethical. Making shots due to peer pressure is unethical. Shooting an animal for bragging rights and not for food is unethical. Who here is 100% ethical? If your goal is to eat the animal, and you are 1/2 way proficient with your weapon and know its limitations, how is a head shot any less ethical? Sorry about the deer not being so pretty after being shot...give it a day, and see the pile of carnage that is left over from the butchering.

Well believe it or not ..... Tonight I took a head shot on a doe. Yep, she was walking down the middle of the road. Hit her right in the head with my left front corner clearance light on my Nissan pickup. It was a couple hrs after dark and she was walking away from me. So just as I saw her rear end and swerved a little to the right she turned her head and I smacked it. Hardly no damage just broke the clearance light. Dropped the doe right where she stood. The officer that came out and wrote me a salvage tag for the doe said he thought I was real lucky not to have any damage to my truck. she was a good size doe maybe 180 dressed. Brought her home and she is now in the freezer except for the back-strap. Tonight a head shot worked well. I would take one again because from what I saw tonight it's ethical and effective as well as humane. ( This is a true story)
