If the bucks follow the doe' s so that the does are basicly on point for the bucks how far behind do the bucks travel behind the does?

Well....I have seen them from inches behind[8D], to hours behind a doe.

not really.....the does are out feeding and doing their normal thing....the bucks are following them trying to find a mate....but if them does are spooked they can alert the buck that MAY be following and possibly make him not go in that area....but just because you see a doe doesnt mean theres a buck anywhere around her......

I' ve seen does does running through the woods like they were shot at.... But, they were actually being trailed by a buck 50-60 yards behind with his head to the ground.

But, like what Mauser said, I have had mature doe go underneath my stand hopeing to see that NT following her :p and never see a buck that entire day.

It is an old wifes tale that the doe are the point for a buck, when the rut is not on the bucks could care less about the does, but once the rut is on the buck will follow the doe and as rack attack said he could be hot on her heels or hours behind.

I think there comes a time when a buck is " courting" a doe when his survival is still his highest priority. Sure, he stays with her waiting for his chance, but he cares more about his safety than anything else. That being said, when a doe gets closer and closer to estures (sp) and she now is willing to mate, he is definitely aware of this and his priority will focus soley on the doe. He will do things he would never consider during other times of the year. Caution will be thrown to the wind and his safety and well-being will now play second fiddle. If he' s lucky, he' ll be around for another year to play again...
