What are some easy tips to getting bigger bucks to your hunting area?
|
Go out there the 5th day of ever other month and run the perimeter of your woods naked with a pair of fake antlers on. Let a fake grunt call (fart) go every 147 yards.

We just slowly started to put out a food plot and monitor deer with cameras and we had a big buck show up last year. Had 3 or 4 pictures of him and then during second shotgun season he came walking through the woods with another big buck. My dad shot the first one and I shot the second one. We had never even seen the second one. You just have to try to minimize the pressure, provide food, water, and cover if possible, and the main thing.....let the little bucks grow into big bucks

Well last year we had a couple six and eights. there was one monster buck i didn't get a good look but it was like 11 or 12 point. I'm gonna try to get him this year.

There is always a dominant buck in an area. The thing is it may not be the trophy you were hoping for, but take what you can get if limited.
Short-term: Put yourself in the best position to kill the dominant buck in the area: Food sources throughout the season, doe concentrations during the rut, funnel areas between bedding & food. Scouting is key. Long-term: Let the little ones grow. Put in a food plot if area available to do so. Continue putting out mineral licks year after year to assist in antler growth. Create cover...if you have areas you can let grow up, or areas you can log, do it. Thickets/cover over time, along bucks places to hide during heavy pressure. |
get a camera or two, plant food plot(s), don't shoot little ones and try to get your neighbors on the same page if they hunt. if not try to get permission!!

The best way to get big bucks in your hunting area is.... DON'T SHOOT LITTLE BUCKS. Many of the bucks you pass may get shot else where but you can't control that. Set a goal of a certain size buck and stick with it. It will pay off sooner or later.

When someone figures that one out that don't have 10,000 acres of completely private land they will be rich.
