Need your vote

I thought I would put a question to a vote on here. I have seen a few topics titled "shooter or not", "would you shoot him" etc., etc.

when I go hunting, I am going to kill......

A) only a 150" or better buck
B) anything above 125"
c) an 8pt or better
d) anything that walks by

Me, it's "d", I try to stick to "c" until the season is ending then a deer I passed on early might be in trouble later.

Depends on where I'm hunting. At a club I'm in we try to shoot a "mature" buck. Other places I'll shoot anything I want to shoot. I'm not a big believer in "growing" big bucks on open land including clubs. Most clubs don't last long enough to manage a deer herd.

it really depends, but in general around here if you can wait til a buck is 3.5 he's going to be a whopper, anything older even better, 2.5yo can be very nice, I'll take a doe before a lesser buck.

I try to avoid 8pts as well, also want to see a spread past the ears.

Maturity

I'd have to say C, but typically I look for maturity (I'm not the best at judging the age of a deer, but I try).. If I think he'll be amazing next year, and also has the ability to survive the rest of the season I'll let him go.. But I agree I'd rather take a doe over a lessor buck any day..

When I am hunting local it's A leaning towards B. When I hunt Iowa and Kansas it's B for sure. With that said I also tag 4-6 does every year, all with the bow as I don't rifle hunt any more, just not any satisfaction in it for me.

I hunt on public lands only so therefor my answer would be D. I'm hunting to put meat on the table. Now if I were trying to manage a private piece of land it'd probably be a different story...
