So usually I just buy a bag of corn a week from a local farmer and dump it into a pile and the deer tear it up. I have heard that you save a lot of mmoney when you use a feeder for your corn. How long does a feeder last with 50 pounds in it, what kind of feeders do you use, how does the timer work on them, do the deer come for the corn right at the timer if they are established on it, and anything else you can think of.

The honest truth . . .
is it is a conspiracy to get every hunter to buy corn, a feeder to distribute the corn evenly over time, a bunch of batteries, and a trail cam that can take pictures 24/7 so you have less time to scout the woods. Like they say - a hunter and his money are soon parted.
And then there's the psychological torment the big buck puts you under by showing up in the middle of the night, and only showing up for pictures during the hunting season. For some the best buck the hunter ever got, had his picture taken by the corn feeder about 2 A.M. and only the trail cam was there to bear witness to what really happened. |
depends on how much you disperse each time

We just use a 5 gallon bucket with holes drilled in the lower part of it and hang it. A 50bls. bag of corn will last about a week or so depending how often the hogs come in. We have had deer, hogs and turkey come in.

but since you directed syrupman, I won't be rude. iSnipe |
When I used to just dump corn, 50 lbs was gone in 2-3 days. Now with a feeder, (feeder holds about 300lbs) it will last 2 1/2 months. (feed rate is adjustable).

Putting it in a pile is the mistake. You need to throw it around like acorns falling. Make them work for it. It will last longer this way.

ok get some pvc pipe about three feet tall (12 inchess diameter) cut two triangle shape about six inches up...now get a tiny trash can that will slide over the top...spray paint both with a non reflectant spray paint...reccomend black and green...take a metal fence post(those ones about six feet tall) paint it...ok now take the pipe with the cut outs on the bottom and bang it in the ground until about a couple inches off the ground...put the fence post right next to it and take a bungee cord and tie it around the trashcan lid to the post....Fill it with corn...it should last over a week with one bag...you can modify it to suit your needs though..
