best 30-06 grain ammo for deer?
 

I used a 243 the last couple years but I recently got a 30-06 for deer season and was just wondering what grain of bullets to get. Any advice?

Controlled expansion bullets: 150gr

Cheapo stuff: 165gr

If you can hunt bear during deer season: 180gr

Any cup and core bullet from 150 thru 180 grain. You rifle will tell you have it likes just try a few different weights and grains. Try some remington corlokts, federal soft points and winchester soft points first. Ain't so deer walking that can stand up to those three.

I'd go with the 150 grain.

I use 180g. More than enough for any deer you'll encounter.

I say whatever your rifle performs best with. I use 150 grain Winchester PowerPoints, but try a few different ones at the range and see which ones hold the tightest group with your rifle.

Important thing is to find one you like and stick with it. Don't change ammo every time some manufacturer comes out with a NEW bullet offering. Establish a good zero with a round you can find easily.

165 grainer.
Light enoug to open up on chest shots.Heavy enough for shoulder shots or shots requiring deep wound channels.

I have always used good ol' 150 gr Remington Core Lokts.

I've always used 180gr. Core-Lokts, with those there isn't any tracking
