Military snipers would have to disagree on the 30-06 not being a capable round at long range. It's smaller cousin the .308 has probably been used more in any long range match competiton than any other cartridge out there. Of course you have magnum class rifles and all the new super mags of today but the ole timers made amazing shots with the equipment they had. 30-06 is not my first choice but it would land in the Top three of the non magnum class of long range calibers along with the 270 and the .308 plus many others close to them in preformance. It's long earned it's place in the history of long range shooting. I say use it and never look back.
