if a good buck comes down my trail he is down ! but i prefere a female for the meat .where i live we can only tag one deer a year so i am selective what i shoot .

If I draw IA this year.....a $140 doe tag or whatever it cost me, if I see a doe/get a shot with the bow 1st doe/shot I get is going down!

Course with my $450 buck tag or whatever I will be looking for a big boy.

We don't have tags or seasons here in New Zealand. If you want some venison, you go to your favourite "meatsafe" and get some whenever you like. The roar (or rut, you call it) starts about Easter here, and that's about the one time I stay away from the bush - too many "Rambo's" out there shooting anything that moves. But yep I like to hunt my meat.

I kill does for meat as it helps keep our numbers balanced so calls and rattling horns still work. I also kull hunt my property. to keep our antlers respectable, and I try to not take any respectable bucks under 5 years of age. This nearly guarantee's me a nice buck every year. Damn what the neighbors do.

For me it all depends on where I'm at and how full the freezer is. If Im bowhunting at one of my urban spots, first deer that comes through has an arrow in it, except button bucks. If I get towards the end of the season and I'm short on venison, just about anything is fair game. Gun hunting in Illinois, I try and hold out for the big guy. In Michigan, our rule is 6 point or better the first day, then after that the standards go down buck wise. Soon anything 4 or goes better gets shot. Just like hunting Kuk, if we don't shoot it, the neighbors will. Lately though, we'd rather take a big doe than a small buck. In the end I think it all depends on how full the freezer in. The only deer that always gets a pass from me is button bucks. I just can't get myself to shoot one thinking what they could look like if they make it another 3 years!

If my property has at least 40 deer per square mile I will take one big doe and a buck if it is a 4pt or 50 point dont matter.last year I had about 70 deer on and traveling thru the property and I took one doe and one buck. And allow no one else to hunt. If deer pop gets below 40 psm I dont hunt. I cant control what the neighbors do,but my place can be a saving , guarded preserve so the areas deer herd does not meet the fate Pa deer herd has become. Most my neighbors feel the same. PRAISE WV. I spend thousands of dollars every year feeding the herd. Meat or antler ego is not my goal.

Well since animals are made of meat I guess its a simple answer.

I love to eat deer meat. I love to hunt big antlers also. I fill the freezer with does and only shoot a buck if it's got a good rack. I get no thrill from shooting a little buck. No challenge at all. So Im both...meat hunter and trophy hunter.

I'm for everyone doing what they want. If its shooting a fork horn and you are happy....great. If its traveling to other states to kill a monster...it's your time and money. No need to label anyone and make them out to a bad guy as long as they are legal....have fun.
