Last year as I was getting a MD sika deer checked out of public land, I had a conversation with a US Fish and Game biologist. He said, wt's are not supposed to have cainines or "I-teeth". But elk and sika deer do. Elk and sika deer are different than WT's however as WT's are not grazers but browsers.

The water deer is considered a primitive member of the Cervidae family (Deer), because buck has large canine teeth and has no antlers, both evolved by other deer.
