Need recommendations on a deer feeder
So I joined a hunt club and have some private land to hunt for the first time in years.
The problem is that it is about 1.5 hours from home, so I need a feeder with a large capacity and/or a setting for dispensing only a small volume. Preferably the feeder will run two to three weeks between fill-ups. Also, I am not looking to spend a ton of money. Any recommendations? |
I'd get a broadcast style, if any.
I have a moultrie, certainly can last 3 weeks....I rarely had to charge that battery. Mine's like a 30gallon barrel up on a tripod. I modified mine to spread better, less interference with other parts/tripod legs/support arms, etc... |
Are you looking for an electronic or home made? Im putting a home made on together now that with a little work will keep the critters off it and only will (Hopefully) feed the birds and deer. It isn't going to be hunted over, just a backyard deer feeder but Im setting it up with about a 50pd capacity on corn.

I'd consider both buying one and building one.
Any other recommendations? |
ive had several but my favorite i bought from ebay it has a built in ladder that makes it simple to fill cant remember the name but cabelas sales one just like it in 200 and 400 pound capacities
i have the 200 its plenty big. i put a solar panel on mine and has been running constantly for @ 2 years. i see a 400 on ebay but not a 200 but you may could write them and see if they carry the 200 also. the varmint guard is a good investment also. those darn coons are very hazardous to the motors. dont know how they can get to them but they surely will. gets very aggravating having to carry in a ladder so the built in one is GREATTTT |
I had a Moultrie "EZ Load" and it was "OK" for about two years, then the motor casing leaked and the motor froze solid in DEC due to rain.
I then broke down and bought a Texas Hunter Products Trophy Feeder with "Ez Lift" system. It is expensive at close to $769 before shipping, but it is one hell of a feeder. Premier 12-Volt TF300 Trophy Feeder 300 lb. Feed Capacity (corn) Heavy Duty Galvanized Hopper Powder-coated Texas Hunter Green Finish Built-in Galvanized Funnel Lockable Lid & Door Protects Components High Torque 12-Volt Motor Heavy-duty Hanging Bracket 12-volt Rechargeable Battery 12-volt Solar Charger Varmint Guard EZ Set Digital Timer (12-Volt) w/ 5-Year Limited Warranty I’ve had it 3 years now and have been feeding 10 months per year on the same battery. At a couple pounds a day I usually go about 2.5 months between filling using a corn. Bean mix. http://www.texashunterproducts.com/tfezlitf.html Chuck |
All you need is the Moultrie motor. The peice that you cres in the botom that dispenses the feed. U can make your own using a 30 gal plastic drum. Or whatever size you need. Build a wooden frame and stack each corner.
