Hide them with evergreen branches and keep them out of tote roads and areas of human travel.Keep them back off the trail you are on a little, say a prayer and ask the LORD to watch over your cam and keep it from being stolen or messed with.Worst damage I ever recieved was from a bear not a human.

If possible, use a chain instead of a strap and padlock it;)Then, they can' t steal it, and if your lucky, you may even get a photo of the devil who tryed to take it!:D

Evergreens work for me, but I have had to wrap mine with barbed wire to keep the bears off them. I got the picture of the inside of a bears mouth before he decided to have my camera box for a snack. I also scribe my name and phone# in big letters on mine, it may not keep it from being stolen, but someone else just might get a look at it and call in a tip...You never know!!!

Hey! I just got my FIRST Deer Cam in the mail today! I have no experience in preventing stealing/tampering, but I like the advise that Woodseye has provided. It is unfortunate that we have evil people out there. [>:]

Now I have to figure out where to put the thing! I am likely going to try a deer " trail" that is behind a 2-year old clear cut...and hope for the best. I will be very surprised if anybody comes across it...there are no human trails, logging roads or the like. In addition, there is a lot of downed timber that prohibits easy walking. I am concerned that my visiting the camera to change film, etc. will contaminate the area and spook deer?! I will ride my mountain bike to the vicinity...then walk about 500 yards to the camera...bike shoes are not scent proof! Oh well:D Any comments?

I keep mine in thick areas and away from anyone that may see it . I never put it on public land and try to hide it as much as possible if I can. I live in a place where is no bears, but the raccoons see pretty interested in it, and even got it off the tree once, those were some funny pictures:D. A lot of people I know have had theirs stolen and I pray mine never does.

Unfortunately, there really isn' t a sure-fire way
to keep your game cam from being stolen. I
put mine in ' out of the way' places, certainly
not my best locations, but at least I' ve got my
camera in the area:). I have some locations
that would almost certainly produce some
awesome pics, however it' s not worth the risk
of having the camera stolen.

As mentioned, I usually place some limbs and
weeds through the bungee cord and around
the camera. This seems to do a good job of
concealing the camera.

Sad to say but if they want it they will get it!! I don' t put mine on any public land and I check it regularly and right down anyone I catch on the property that is not supposed to be there and turn them in so I have a record of them if something is missing.

Yeah it doesn' t matter how well you lock it as they can use bolt cutters or simply saw the tree of right above the cam and slide it off stump. If somebody wants it and know what they are worth they will not be deterred by lock features.A friend just had his out and it caught a pot grower going by so they tore the cam apart to get the film out and in the process destroyed the cam pretty much.I have pics of an ATV as well as people going by and so far it has not been noticed, break up the outline(square) and hang branches around it and lean things against the tree from behind to keep it from being outlined.A large piece of bark with holes where the light and lens look thru can be very good for hiding it from roving eyes.

I never thought about the bark idea. Good thought.

What about the camo on a lot of these? It seems that the camo design of the DeerCam, or the camo on the CamTrakker, would help.

I lock mine onto the tree as well. I know if someone really wants it, they will still get it. I figure at least it would discourage someone just passing by and picking it up. Hardly anyone carries around boltcutters in the woods, so it would take an extra trip to bring some back. You still have people that will shoot the lock off however, so nothing is going to be 100% effective. As far as concealment, my camera was black so I purchased a roll of the camo duct tape and wrapped it up. It did very well, but it fades in the sunlight in a month or two. Still works great from seeing it from a distance though.

You should put in clear letters on the front of camera " Smile the other camera' s film will be sent to the police if this one is gone" . It will at least make them stop and think/look for second camera before they steal the first one. No one wants to be caught on film.

I have a home brew Game Camera. I use a section of logging chain to secure it to a tree, and the case has a hole in each side with a rubber gasket to keep out water. I wrap the chain around the tree, and each end goes into those holes, then it is padlocked inside the case. Then I have two smaller padlocks locking the case shut.

Worked well for me, and have busted a few people who tried to take it with pics.

lOCK, CHAIN, CABLE, AND CAMO. I made the mistake of setting mine on a state forest road and got several pictures of a scruffy looking fellow messing with my camera. The cable and lock seemed to deter him. I believe it would deter most would be thieves but if someone really wanted to steal it, they could just snip the cable...... So far so good though.

Mfro,. Strap a pair of rubber boots to your bike and wear rubber surgical gloves when you mess with your camera. When I first started setting my camera out i didnt think much about scent control and wore regular boots and no gloves. All my pics came in 2 or 3 days after I set my camera out. After I started wearing my rubber boots, surgical gloves, and wiping the outside of my trail cam with earthscent wipes I started getting deer pics on the same day. I also only set my camera out between 11 am and 2pm when most of the deer have bedded.

Sit above your camera in a stand with an arrow nocked [:-] Seriously, I think if somebody wants it, they' re gonna take it. The only thing you can do is lock it and conceal it as much as possible. Check on it a little more to.

theres no REAL good way to stop someone from stealing it... set up a bait pile back away from everything and try it there, away from the road.. scatter some corn among some acorns and see if you get deer to come there.. if u hunt in a less populated area, set it near a road but hidden good enoguh it can' t be seen unless someone is looking for it.. thats what' d i' d do...
