low deer population
 

ok..I have 95 acres in ga..its mostly young trees...no big timber...I see alotta deer sign...rubs...scrapes...but...no bedding areas...Theres a bottom at the end of the property and seems like all the deer are coming from there...I have 4 food plots and a pond on it....But seems like no good deer activity untill the rut kicks in...Is there anything i can do to get them coming in and out more often...???:confused:

If You go on the 90 Acres too much You may be scaring the Deer off your property and they only travel on it at night,try to keep your activity to a minimum and leave an decent size area alone for a Sanctuary where the Deer can go or bed down undisturbed and no one is allowed in that area unless to retrieve a downed Deer.If You are checking trail camera's try to keep your scent down even when your not Hunting and wear rubber boots.Any unnecessary presence can keep the Deer wary that they are being hunted and You could be educating the Deer more and more,any 4-wheelers,dirt bikes,stray dogs or even tresspassers could cause Deer to be more cautious too!

Hunter is rite, and if u dont hav tall grasses on the property, id say plant some that can get to about 6ft tall. Makes great bedding

Deer like it thick for bedding. I would rather have the land the deer are moving through than the bedding area to hunt. I prefer to leave the bedding areas as a refuge. I have 10 acres bordering several thousand acres of public land. Not much, but I am the one with apples. I still have my opportunities. Make sure atvs, dirt bikes, chain saws, and target shooting are all minimized too. Deer dont like em, regardless of time of year. If they get used to avoiding an area due to activity, even months in advance, you wont see them.

Dave Boone's right, the transition areas between bedding and feeding are much easier to hunt. As long as they are crossing your property I wouldnt worry too much about where theyre bedding.

Hunting such a relatively small area means sometimes the deer are there; sometimes they aren't there. Sometime feast or sometimes famine. Sometimes a good; sometimes not so good of an area.

Being a small area means you can scout and learn where they move; where they don't move. Where's the cover; where do the deer feed; where do they find water.

And in Ga that means sitting for long hours in a tree stand after scouting.

My take.

Yea...The property is mostly scrub oaks...They just walk threw bein nosey..lol...i had my mineral blocks and camera out there for a week and hasnt been touched....We do alot of fishing down there..soo thats pretty much all the noise is right there..But i think soon as they find the minerals..they will keep coming back checking..

Is it legal in GA to put out mineral or salt blocks?

Its not deer season..soo yea... but has to be gone or up before deer season..corn also..can't hunt over it
