I have been using Remington Core-Lokt 180 grain in my 30-06 since I was about 20 years old I think (I am 58 now). I have shot close to 40 bucks with my same 30-06 using those Core-Lokts and I think the longest tracking job I ever had to do was 100 yards, and it was an easy tracking job. There is just no reason for me to try any different bullet. I am sure there are equally as good rounds out there but just no reason for me to change something that works perfectly. Most of the deer I have shot have not gone more than 35 yards.

For deer I've always shot corelockts. That is all I could affort in my early 20's and and never had them fail me. When I head out West for big game, I always use 180 Nosler Accubonds by Federal.

I have had success with Remington Core Lok, and they are pretty inexpensive. I would suspect that for most folks who typically make shots well under 200 yards any round will hit the mark if the hunter does their part.

Remington Core Lok 150 grain slug pulled out of large doe, entered center rib cage, stopped under fur in front of hind leg, 70 yard shot, deer went 20 yards:

I've shot the Remington 165 Core Loks and have had great results.Readily available at my local Walmart.I'm sure there are better bullets and more expensive but why?

Anyone else try Nosler Custom Trophy Grade ammo? It's very accurate and very consistent out of my rifle. And it uses their Accubond bullets so you know bullet performance will be spot on.

165 Grain Remington Core-Lokt
I've never had a deer take a step after I've shot them. But careful shot placement is key and don't take a shot that you're not sure is going to drop them.

I have shot the noslers and coreloks out of my 700 and the 180 coreloks is what I use when hunting. Kind of an over kill using 180 for deer but I'm in elk country too, and maybe a few griz. No complaints here. Your rifle will let you know.
