Treestand height
How high do you guys like to get in your deer stands? I get between 20 and 30 ft, while my dad gets as high as he can, sometimes up to 60 ft or more. He has also hunted out of the top of 100+ ft pine trees using a tree saddle. I was just wondering how high the majority of you get. Thanks.

RE: Treestand height
Most of the time I have plenty of cover between 15 and 25 feet.

RE: Treestand height
Here in MN you sometimes have to get over 20 feet to see over the thick under brush (Up here they don' t let you burn it.[:@]) But when you are away from the brush, I would say 15 to 25 ft. too.

RE: Treestand height
As high as I can get and still have good visibility, sometimes 15 feet sometimes 50 feet.

RE: Treestand height
I' m with timbercruiser. I go as high as I can and still have good visibility. A few years back I was in a pine tree around 45 to 50 feet high. I had an old doe come in to about 25 yards from the tree I was in. She was one of those that jumps at any sound or movement around her. Just out of curiosity I stood up and turned completely around in my climber with no obstructions between us. She never knew I was there. Good advice is to only go as high as you' re comfotable with however high that may be.

RE: Treestand height
same as the others,as high as the land dicktates,be it 12' or 40'
love hights, deer will not see you at 25' [X(][X(] |
RE: Treestand height
It will depend on the terrain, tree, and available
cover. Rarely will I get above 20 feet because of the shot angle. Usually I hunt from heights of 18-20 feet, though some stand sites allow the stand to be hung at 14-15' . Last year I took my buck from a small oak tree with the stand no more than 13-14' . My tree had leaves everywhere and the ground below me where the deer traveled fell away sharply. Where exactly do you aim, when shooting from a stand at 50-60 feet? 100+[:o] |
RE: Treestand height
15-20 feet, just enough to look down into the mountain laurel

RE: Treestand height
I try to keep my stands between 15 and 20ft seem to be a good medium here in Texas

RE: Treestand height
It really all depends, i prefer not to go more than 25 feet, but around here, you can go as high as you want in the bottoms, and when the deer come downhill, they are still at eye level at some point or another. It takes me a little longer then some people to find a good tree, because I will look for unique terrain to block my outline. For example, my best stand is located around 20ft up a tree in a creek bottom, which is hidden by a large pine about 30 yrds uphill on the other side of a small stream(which is usually mostly dry). That keeps me completely concealed until the deer is already below me, and within bow range!!

RE: Treestand height
15-20 feet is typical for me. However, I' ve tried higher. It all depends on the stand. Amount of cover. Wind direction. Time of day. Branches... the list goes on.

RE: Treestand height
Between 15 & 25 feet depending on if the leaves have hit the ground yet..I have one tree in the riverbottoms that I can only get to about 12 in & have killed more bucks out of it than any of my other spots,,it' s got good cover tho & is one heck of a bottleneck..Gotta move real slow & easy & watch the wind real good tho..Took the 11 point @ 8 yards(on my profile) out of my ol trusty Oak..It' s been a goodun..

RE: Treestand height
My ladder stands are 15 feet. With my climbers???? The sky is the limit. I usually go around 20-25' . I like being able to see under the trees instead of the tree tops.

RE: Treestand height
I go as high as the tree will let me...usually between 20-30 feet. If I can' t get up but about 15 or so...I' ll usually find a different tree nearby to climb up.

RE: Treestand height
My seat is 18 ft off the ground .

RE: Treestand height
I have a 7-foot tripod, as well as ladder stands of a variety of heights between 8 and 15 feet, with the majority being 15. I don' t have a climbing stand at this point in my life, but there are quite a few areas I hunt that won' t permit anything higher than 10-12 (tree height). I have to agree, though, that high is good.

RE: Treestand height
I place my stands around 15 to 30 ft. but lately i' ve been hunting in my doublebull blind.

RE: Treestand height
i' m a chicken****, i have a couple stands that my husband made that are 6 feet......works great for me:D

RE: Treestand height
i may try a 40 ft climb this yr, i dunno how much id have to set my climber at tho so it wouldn' t be tilting or sloped downward.. thats the last thing i want.. maybe i' ll set it for what it hink is a little over and just keep going until i get to where i need to be? 100 ft is a LONG way up in a tree. even 50 ft is a long way..

RE: Treestand height
Most of the time i try to get 20' a little more or less but 20' seems to be plenty high enough where i hunt.
