What' s your favorite rack?

Doesn' t matter whether or not you' ve killed a buck like this, and I know a giant buck is a giant buck, you' d never pass it up for a certain kind, but I know I have a favorite type of rack:

12-point typical with double drop tines.

Never seen one on the hoof, but that would be it for me. I' d put that thing on a full-body mount in the center of my living room if I scored on one. :D

What' s your favorite type of rack?

Big 12 point typical...with mass[:-]. Had one
at 10 yards years ago, my second year bow
hunting, but with a few minutes of shooting
light left I lowered my bow and dropped the
bow rope[:o]. One of several painful lessons
I' ve learned the hard way[:' (]. But on the
upside...that mistake has truly fueled my
desire to hunt mature bucks.

I have to agree with you a solid 5 or 6 with double droptines makes my heart skip a beat & another thing that really makes it flutter is split brows. I truly love typical racks, but something about trash that just makes me say OOOOOOOO;)

I like to look for weird or deformed racks.
I have 7 that are weird,5 0r 6 on one side and a long spike on the other.I have one that I shot over a real big 6 pt. to take this deformed 7 pt.it is 3 on one side the other is turned back and down with a long twist.
wish I could post you some pic' s.

Lots of mass, split brows, and double drops all make up my version of the ultimate buck antlers :)

Awesome pic Woodseye and beauty comment Thunder :D.

I would think your favourite rack should be one that' s hanging in your house! Mine is an almost perfect 10 pointer that grossed out at 130 and only had 1 1/2 inches of deductions. I get a thrill every time I look at it.

Man I assume you are not married or you are just dreaming!:D

I have never killed a non-typical, I haven' t even seen one on the hoof yet, that is a rack I would like to have, just different from all others.

RE: What' s your favorite rack?

i love messed up non typicals also....just something so weird looking....but a big nice symetrical typical looks great to me also....id love to see a perfect racked 14 pt..7 on each side..nice long tines...nice heavy beams...with the g3 or g4s on both sides going straight down...i also havea nack about really tall racks....like the one in someones sig...i forget maybe rack attacks im not sure....i seen a really nice 8 or 10pt with a really high rack..but it was during the youth rifle doe hunt.....i got to watch him with my dad at 25-50yds while he browsed....what a beautiful sight...i was shaking like a leaf just watching him being that close at times...i didnt even bother to look for his lady friends that would been fair game for me...i like em all! lol big wide tall short fat typical nontypical they are all special.........

ahh, racks. probably, a non-typical rack or a massed typ. but in all actuality, prolly any rack would suffice, as long as it ain' t a spike ;)[:-]

RE: What' s your favorite rack?

I agree with FL/GA I like any deer with a drop tine. I shot mine last year that was a great deer. it had a 6" drop on it and it scored almost 160 with the drop tine deduciton. Other than that it was perfectly typical. It was my dream deer.

My favorite rack has to be my fiance' s;), it' s a beautiful chocolate non-typical, really gnarly and knobby, I forget what the score on it was, but it would have been somewhere on the top 25 non-typs in ks, 13-14? if I recall correctly.

RE: What' s your favorite rack?

I like any rack that puts meat in the freezer! But to be honest, a nice symmetrical, thick rack w/ high tines. Be it 8, 10, 12, 14...... They are all awesome.

Round Double D' s are nice too!

Angus74 06-21-2003 06:25 AM

RE: What' s your favorite rack?

I like em perky and full[:o]

But if were hunting, LOTS OF MASS, LOTS OF STICKERS, and a big DROPTINE, oh just thinking of big racks gives me the shakes.:D

RE: What' s your favorite rack?

I have not shot a giant buck, but I did get an 8-pointer, small though, had about a 1 foot inside spread but very semetrical. I got the antlers on a board (first buck.)

My dream rack is a huge typical 14.

RE: What' s your favorite rack?

mass, mass and more mass!!! A heavy, narly, thick rack has character and is my favorite. The score in inches to me is secondary.

I started out the wrong way. Got my best first. 11pt. 210lbs. field dressed in 1957. Been hunting 46 years since and I have not been able to best it. That first was in Illinois. Have since moved to Northern Mississippi in 1977. A buck that size in my area is a rarety. But I still keep hunting and hoping.

Woodseye,

did that whitetail breed with a moose?

That thing is AMAZING!

woodseye 06-23-2003 04:59 AM

RE: What' s your favorite rack?

Nah,that is a buck from out in Iowa corn country,it just really has the mass and tine size I like along with drops and other " trash" and would be about what I visualise when I think ultimate antlers. On the other hand this bad boy from up here in Maine would really make one wonder if indeed a moose took up courtship with one of our northern whitetails, and what the resulting union would yield ;)!

I think a big bodied, 26-30 point non-typical would be a dream deer.

Perfect 10. Nice symmetrical, wide, tall points, No kickers, not real big on overly heavy rack either. Little lighter than dark. That' s what I like.

RE: What' s your favorite rack?

One of the greatist B&C bucks shot was taken in Maine. The man who shot it thought it was a moose!, but luckely he had tags for both. It scored 259 NT and had 31 points. [:o]
