Deformed fawn
 

On 6/17 we found a doe on my land that just gave birth, I brought my kids to see the fawns. One of the fawns was deformed(doe) the other was fine(buck) The mother did not clean up the deformed fawn so I knew she would not care for it. I went back after the mother took the other fawn away so I could pick up the deformed one. The lower jaw was much shorter than the top and the mouth opening went clear back to it' s ear with no muscle to move the lower jaw.
Has anybody ever seen anything like this? I have a picture That I can email to somebody if they will post it here ...Bill

338 that sounds like a weird defect, I have never heard nor seen anything like that. The weirdest adult deer I ever saw was one whos back half was normal, the front half of her was clolored like a palimino pony and the front legs were way to short, she took two steps with the front legs for every one the hind legs took walking, what was interesting was this did not hold true when she ran.

In last years Weird Whitetails Magazine they had a photo of a buck that had a lower jaw that was much shorter than the upper jaw, it made him look like he had a severe overbite.

About 5 year' s ago I harvested a 6 point and his lower jaw was about an 1 1/2 inch' s shorter than it should have been. He was very malnurished and his horn' s very deformed, and he was skin and bone' s. I took him out of the herd to keep him from possibly passing this trait on. He was the only one that has been seen or heard of in this area.
