hanging a deer

Hey guys, just curious on what kind of setup do you guys use to hang your deer for skinning and such? I'm new to this and need to build something for hanging the deer. Give me some ideas and show some pics. Thanks. Shawn

This year we built a rig that fits into the hole for our attic in our garage. It was a couple pieces of steel that were bigger than the hole. We had a couple pulleys on there and just raised them up. It worked pretty slick. We have been talking about rigging up something with a winch for next year but I am not sure if we will do it.

A simple gambrel and a block an tackle work fine for me. Then again so would a couple of 10 penny nails and loop in the beam. I know one guy who just uses a couple of S hooks and some Ibolts with fender washers to hang the deer, works as well as a gambel, quite a bit more work lifting the deer to get it hooked but works like a dream.

I have a small block and tackle and a gambrel. I hang it from beam in my motorcycle shop. I have AC and Heat if it gets too cold or hot.

rope over a tree limb...sometimes we use a wench system..sometimes on the ground...my buddy has a wench system that fits into his receiver for his trailer hitch...its cool.. we use the rear legs here...i know some people who hang by the neck too

If you're going to hang one and skin it traditionally with a blade I like to hang them back legs up and hang from each leg seperately with the legs about 3' apart to keep the deer from being able to spin around.

I have a gambrel and block and tackle that cost me about $12 from wally world, rope included. I hang it from a beam in my garage.

I have a hitch reciever hoist I built that assembles in your reciever and uses a cable winch to lift. We use it for deer antelope, elk and even a moose. Has a hook on the end where we put a gambrel and it allows for one person to lift any big game animal in NA by ones self.

Use your FEL on your tractor to hoist the deer. Works great, as you can adjust the height of the deer as you skin and butcher:-)

You can also then easily transport it from the washing area to the barn you hang it in to the place you butcher it.
