Default RE: Why would this deer still have antlers

I have been told by a game biologist that some deer do not shed their antlers at all. He said there are deer that have either lost their testicles in a injury or were born with none, these deer will often maintain the same rack their entire life. He also said some of the deer never progress past the velvet stage due to the same reason. A friend of mine shot what he thought was nice buck a few years ago, turned out to be a very masculine doe, a bulldoe

I shot a buck like that many years ago. It was late Dec and he still had growing velvet, but lacked testicles that would have produced the hormones that would have made him shed his antlers.

Deer may be born without testicles, or lose them to an injury, such as crossing a fence. More likely the deer was born without testicles. The deer could also be a doe
with antlers, in which case they don' t shed the antlers.

This is the type of question I like to see on the T.R.s Tips Forum. If you have more questions like these come on over.
