eventful day . I would have done the same and end its suffering

You did the right thing. I would rather waste a tag on a suffering deer and put it down, even if the meat wouldn't be useable. Than shoot a healthy one.

You're a credit to the sport.

I often hear people relate hitting a deer. "It just ran off in the woods." A number of years ago a button buck was hit near our home. It went about 125 yards up into a field and bedded down, right out in the open. After it was put out of its misery it was examined. Three of it's legs were broken, low, about 8" off of the ground. All were open fractures. Amazing that it went that far, probably all the further it could go. I wonder how many of the bambi-huggers know these things.

that was the most ethical thing i have heard all year while we were driving in gun season at lunch the guys infront of us at mickey d's were talking about gut shooting three deer and leaving them because they didnt want to deal with them and my buddy ripped them new ones and eventually caused such a scene that they left cussing us the whole way out the door. so i have to say great way to be an honest sportsman

Good decision, I have had to do that a few times now for deer that have been clipped by trains.

Good job!!! You put a deer out of its misery and didn't let all the meat go to waste.

LOL! You guys act like you're from Disney or something!!! Aaahhh, the poor little deer.... Ihave to do the "right thing"! LOL! Man, it's just a deer.... nature would have taken care of business... nothing is wasted.... if th deer couldn't feed you then it would hve fed other critters. I don't know guys feel that they need patted on the back because of a "mercy killing".... no big deal... they are WILD animals! LOL!
