That's the thing, IMO. You've heard a lot of good things about the 700, but you've never even touched one (from what I can tell, since you asked how heavy it is). Find one with a good reputation that also feels right for YOU.

As already mentioned, Savage, T/C (Icon, check out the new Venture as well), Browning, etc...

I bought a new 700BDL last in .243 cal. I shot a 700 in .270 cal for about 35 years and just got tired of the kick and decided I wanted something else. You will love your new gun and by the way, there is nothing wrong with the new 700s.

Paintball,

Go for the stainless and you will never need to look back !!!

Now spend some money on good scope and you will be set for a lifetime.

We have a 700 BDL .270 in the safe. My 5'3" 130 lb g/f uses it. She often shoots it from the bench, and I have never heard her complain about recoil. The .270 is a rather mild recoiling caliber, and LOL I am not inclined to load light loads.

700's are great rifles whether they are new or old. I bought this one in 270 Win a couple years ago and it has been a fantastic rifle. It started life as a CDL but now wears a Remington laminate. It feels right in my hands, is accurate, and the fit and finish was excellent.
