Deer antler shed traps?
Anyone out there put out shed traps? If so when is the best time to put them out and what is the best way to make them?

i have heard of making a V with two pieces of woven fence and puting corn in the corner of it I have never tried it tho

I have heard of pouring concrete in a bucket, maybe 1/3 full, this is to prevent tipping. Then put corn in bucket. So deer goes to put his head in to feed and off pops the horns, if they're ready to fall off. I would say its early yet depending on where you live. I haven't tried it though it sounds like it could work. I would suggest drilling holes through to allow water drainage.

we usually drag a downed tree by a fence line for a bedding area and let the branches hang above so when they jump the fence they could knock them loose are they could hit there antlers on the branches and knock them off

Below is something I whipped up. To be closer to reality, the posts should have been closer together making the the V at the back of the trap more narrow. This would aid in grabbing the antlers better.
It's also the top profile of what it looks like. To see the other profile, I'll need $5 to my PayPal. LOL! iSnipe |

I thought this was a joke at first.
In my 20 years of hunting never heard of it. Now I am interested it making a couple myself, though I dont know how it will go over with the wife. "Honey, I swear I'm just going out to check the shed traps." -she will think I'm crazy then. |
