I have the same exact weapon and shoot the winchester 170 grain with no problems. Dropped two does where they were standing last week and I am very satisfied. I do have a scope on it, but the 94 are top eject so you have to buy a special mount that attaches to the LH side of the gun. It works fine. Good luck.

Either is fine. If one shoots better than the other, then that's the way to go. Years ago, I loaded Hornady 170 gr. for my .30-30, and my g/f used factory Rem. 150 Core Lokt. If you looked at the actions of the deer we shot, as well as the wound channels, you would not be able to tell the difference.

as others have said... either will do. 150 will kick a little less.
it's easy to spend waaaay to much time worrying on this; I'd say, go with the one that is most accurate in your gun - if you're willing to put in the time to find this out - and is on sale.

I use a 30-30 Marlin and have used both grains before and I honestly can say the grain doesn't matter, the shot placement does. If you are dead on and got good placement, then grain be damned. Currently I am on a box of Federal Power-Shok 150s.

Why not split the difference and buy Hornady 160gr Leverevolution?:confused2:

When I had my Marlin .30-30 (I sold it last year), it always liked Rem Core-Lokt 150gr. The 150's shoot just a hair flatter, and still carry enough energy to drop a deer in its tracks.

BTW... A scope on a .30-30 ?!? No, man, no... Putting a scope on a lever gun is like putting combat boots on a ballerina!!! :nonono2:

Edit: I sold the old .30-30 because I didn't use it that much, even though I kept it with iron sights. I always used my Savage .308 with a Bushnell 3-9x40 scope. It beat the snot out of my old .30-30 so I figured I'd part with it.

170, pretty sure the 170's carry more energy and less drop at 200yds than the 150's...

or the new hornady 160grs.

I would say that 170 grains wont make that much difference when your using open sights! The distance wont have an effect either...
