tresspassers
Boy it just kills me, why is it that I pay for the land, i pay taxes on the land and people just think they can do what they want anyways.
Mabey i have it all wrong. Why pay for the land? I should just go were I want. And here is the best part, they do drive by's to see if I am there. When they see me, they stop to talk and its one of those talks where we know what each other are up to. Yesterday I take my son back to his stand, 3 sets of prints walking past my stand. 1 guy was on a deer track, the 2nd took a pee behind my stad and the 3rd, well I was so discusted I left with my son after I got down. My land is posted all they way around, so these guys know where they are. Well theres my rant |
some folks got all the nerve...if they are talking to you, ask them about it, tell them to stay away...then if it happens again, get the authorities there
|
When you catch them... beat them senseless.
Just kidding. LOL! Not sure how you know the trespassers are the same group that come and talk to you, but if it gets worse, may have to try something pro-active, like setting up cameras, etc. Or maybe instead of hunting deer, set up a stand to watch the road where they're coming from... if it's that bad. If/when you do catch the culprits, I'd be just as ticked off towards them as I would be you if you didn't prosecute. Some people are too soft. When the party gets a ticket for trespassing, maybe then the word will spread and it will stop. ?? Be sure to prosecute! Good luck, iSnipe |
Put a few rounds through their vehicle when they come around your place. It works really well.
|
Do what I did prit out no tresspassing signs that say No tresspassing and under it write camras.I all so invested in 3 cudde back camras.I put them out and caught a couple people had them finded for tresspassing. My problem so stoped.

I have had people tear my no tresspassing signs off my trees, it's extremely frustrating. I hope to one day catch these low lifes and turn them in to the dnr or local authority.
|
How much land do you have? Is the land fenced? And is there gates on it? It might be worth the money and fustration to get a good fence and gates up on the land. What I've learned from the past is Trespassers are creatures of habit. They use the same path in and out, and take the path of least resistance. Are they seeing deer from the roads and going in after them? If so maybe a screen of White Pines, spruces, or Hybrid Populars will stop the tempation.

This is actually a group of guys who hunt with a locale farmer. I grew up knowing this guy, my brother worked for him you know just friends of the family type thing. This is the guy who's son shot himself hunting this year. So the farmer isn't even hunting.
I own 40 acres of woods that is connected to about 300, my little piece of the pie so to speak. Posted up tight with new signs and everything. But this group has been pushing this block for so many years, I think they think it is thier right.. Prosecute.. they get at least 1 tresspass ticket every year. I think they just budget out for the fines. LOl. We have 1 day left of deer hunting here and then it's over. I have thought to myself, well I will just bring in everyone I know and cover his property next year with hunters, but then i am falling into the trap. |
i bet that dude had on the same boots when he stopped to talk to you!! shoulda invited him up to the house or something, ya know make em walk through the dirt...to check..there is still next time...i dont think i have changed sets of boots once this year.
take a week off and hide your truck at a neighbors house...go do some real huntin...let the game warden know whats up and you might be callin him....set up a good "see all" spot, where ya can see the biggest part of the property...a 90 degree turn on a road around the property's edge or somthing...maybe ya know where they like to come in 8>) take a cam corder , camera...a very precise rifle..40 or a 357...maybe the phone, if ya left it on the porch and had to shoot 1st and ask questions later.:fighting0007: |
that sucks i have seen some real nice deer and i am talking 170 but it was on some ones property and it was posted even know they didnt have a house on the land and were never there i would still never go on there because they asked not to and i think you should just whoop his ass and tell him to stay off
|
around here, people dont trespass because landowners wont call the authorities, they will just shoot you. It deters pretty much all trespassers haha

This year I started using infrared trail cameras 15 feet in the air and well camoflaged pointed at a 45 degree angle down onto the areas I know they will be coming from. My real problem comes after the hunting season is over though because I am out there enough during hunting season for them not to know when I might show up. Snowmobiles in the winter and ATV's and dirt bikes in the spring and summer are the biggest problem. I am optimistic that the cameras will help. Local police have been very good to me when I have reported trespass problems in the past. They have gone to violators homes and had discussions that so far has helped. I hope to get trail cam pics that will keep them guessing and hopefully not make it worth their risk of violating.

Maybe you should put up a sign that says Trespassers Welcome, and then they probably will never come again!

Trespassing
Does it use lead paint?

Get their backtag numbers and turn them in for trespassing to the wardens. They'll go to court and be fined.
|
Sorry to hear about the troubles WNYhunter. You'd think people would know better and at least show some respect to other's property and rights, but some don't. Anyway, you have until next season to figure something out. Maybe by then you'll have come up with a solution to your trespassing problems.
Good Luck, iSnipe |
as far as those off-road vehicles, i would set up spike strips. 2-4 flat tires will definately make them think twice about riding through again!!! as far as the hunters walking through fill your shotgun full of rock salt and shoot them in their caboose-lol!! no i'd just def. keep prosecuting them - but you need proof.....

Prosecute.. they get at least 1 tresspass ticket every year. I think they just budget out for the fines. LOl. . With a repeated track record, you could make it very expensive. Besides, CRIMINAL Trespass should be a hefty fine and jail time. Find out why the local PO is not writing this up. BTW...once written up and enjoined from coming back onto the property, you can ENFORCE (if you know what I mean) your rights independantly. |

Unfortunately in todays world landowners get sued from trespassers when the trespasser was in the wrong in the first place. I heard a story of a atv trespasser suing a landowner because on a gate (that was also posted) the landowner used a cable that caught the atv and flipped it on the trespasser. Now having said that would I let it stop me from protecting my land....No, do what you have to do. |

As a note, he might have gotten sued, but getting sued and having a judgement against you is 2 different things. If he actually paid, then he failed to use the laws that protect him or had a bad attorney. |
I am also a little taken back by all of the suggestions about shooting tresspassers. Maybe they were suggestions in jest, but if not, taking that action will cause you to lose the land you so cherish. Bad advice, and even if given in jest, it is poor taste toeven jokingly say something that stupid.

Well I was out there for the last evening hunt, and more track. Thank god this year is done. I really don't know how to handle it next year. I mean, all they do is tresspass. They walk by every stand I have, and they never mess with anything. It's wrong and it burns my butt cause they have never asked. But they leave everything alone. A guy I work with has owned land for a few years but just started hunting. So up goes the posted signs, was nice to a few guys he caught on his property and what do you know. signs torn down and 2 new stands were taken. Mabey I will look into this group of guys and show up on thier property this year, being nice ask them "where I should put my stands on their property".
Thats why I hate groups pushing, I am not saying everyone but I bet a majority of these groups are all nice guys but break the laws every year, from tresspassing, poaching, using other peoples taggs. To me it's not hunting, it's killing plain and simple. When I hear they shot a nice one, well I am not impreesed at all. |
they burn down the stands if they cant haul em off..tough call!!they live there..and you dont...gotta bust em..not talk to em, but get em in cuffs!! only way.

I call BS on that. You might have heard a story, but every state I have researched has user laws that protect a landowner from liability on their land if used with or without permission (unless leased for $$). So as I said BS.

Your right. And I dont have the other half of the story, yet he may have had to pay some cash to a attorney.
