Big Buck Dave 12-17-2009 06:07 PM

I'm disgusted.........

Not only do I help keep the poachers away. But I spred a hundred dollars worth of doe pee all over the place. Get the biggest buck in the hole dam county almost in the living room. But when it comes in to range at a hundred yards my dumbass buddy does'nt shoot it! Even though he's using a 30/06cal. cannon with a fifty mm lens.....He's more into shooting little buttons and does off the deck. Hell the only DEER I seen him get only had one leg! The rest were'nt even deer they were fawns. Jesus, I went deep today and he did'nt even wear cloths! I had to give him the shirt off my back! I think he's retarded!
I'm done with these rookies. Think they can get a monster buck off the deck or spotlight and say " I'm hunting coyotes"! It's pethetic! I'm going to Mich. where a guy has'em fenced in so there protected from lazy hunters who don't get out'a their truck or complain it's too cold cause they don't wear clothes.........
Good Luck!!!!!!!

putt46 12-17-2009 06:12 PM

couldn't have said it any better

Horacio 12-17-2009 06:39 PM

Damn, I didn't know you were friends with my old man....

121553 12-17-2009 06:44 PM

I don't even know why I want to leave the kabin here to go hunting. I have seen bear, moose and deer. Deer are an every day sighting and I have this game trail that runs along my property and I saw twin 6x6's in velvet and they had to be only about 3yr old bucks in august. I don't shoot deer on my property, I kinda like to think of it as my refrigerator if I need something.

Bobby

Big Buck Dave 12-17-2009 06:45 PM

Ya, well it would be different if he actually killed bucks! Not fawns. The only deer he's got mounted is a little seven point with bow I set him up on in like Oct. 2000!

putt46 12-17-2009 06:46 PM

must be a good buddy

121553 12-17-2009 06:49 PM

Choose your hunting partners, don't let them choose you.

Bobby

Big Buck Dave 12-17-2009 07:05 PM

I'm gonna give it a shot tomorrow morning before the front rolls in. Then he's cutting me off because relatives are coming. O' well, I got off to a late start this year so I can't complain. It's just, you have a very short "window" of when the deer are moving and you usually only get one chance. At least I can look at the board on here an know there is still hope for true hunting..

putt46 12-17-2009 07:09 PM

hope you knock one down good luck

thndrchiken 12-18-2009 05:14 AM

If he doesn't want to do the work, set up in a different area and hunt for yourself. Fortunately the guys that I hunt with are all die hards that are more than willing to go in deep, get skunked and do it all again the next day. My buddies dad is a die hard road hunter, we give him chit about it all the time. We could have gotten him in on the land that we have permission to hunt but specified that he would have to walk. He said no thanks.

superstrutter 12-18-2009 05:23 AM

You sure do complain a lot Dave. Are you sure your name is not Tred? If you are so fed up with your friend on the way he hunts, why keep taking him? Maybe he has a fawn-doe fettish and hates the smell of big bucks.

UncleNorby 12-18-2009 05:55 AM

If I hear you right, you hunt your friend's land, and he doesn't really like to hunt, and on ly shoots small deer.

I wish I had that problem. I'd be shooting the good deer and leave the little ones to him.

chevymanar 12-18-2009 06:07 AM

Most of the hunters at my camp hunt out of their truck windows a time or two during season. LOL

Daveboone 12-18-2009 06:15 AM

A life long best friend of mine has a similar approach to hunting. A bit frustrating to me? Yup, but at the same time I know that he has concerns that I do not, and I will not even start to think what is right. I do know that I am pleased he tries to get out when he can, and as busy as we both are, spend what time together we can. I have been quite touched a few times when I realized how important to him the time we spend was. If he chooses not to shoot, who cares? at least the deer is still out there getting bigger. Be mellow.

salukipv1 12-18-2009 06:58 AM

why didn't he shoot the deer?

I hate hearing about guys "seeing" monster bucks etc..or screwing up the hunt.
My story is always never see a shooter, or never get a shot, not "missed"

What's your secret to keeping the poachers away? Wish I hunted property I knew was only hunted by me, and not poached or even trespassed on. What's with random people walking on private property? horseback riders etc...? hikers/dogs...

Horacio 12-18-2009 07:04 AM

Unfortunately, people do it because it occasionally works. My dad is the world's worst about that and has shot more deer from his truck than you can shake a stick at. At least he's doing it on private property but I admit, when I was a kid, we hunted the 'long pasture' once.

I remember when I was about 16 or 17 I used to always get in trouble out on the deer lease because I 'roamed'. I'd find some brush at the edge of an oat field or I'd camp a trail in the woods. My great uncle would chew me out for hunting in my cousin's areas. I set up a little box blind at a cross roads and deer would come down this road. It was my place to hunt and I liked to get out early. People going to the back portion had to pass right by me to get to their stands. My uncle drove by one morning in his suburban and waved. He drove about 50yds past and his brake lights came on. BOOM! He shot a nice 8 pt buck that was heading up to the road, not 100 yds away. "there was another buck with him, you can shoot him" Yeah, never saw that one.

To this day, my old man will drive up to my stand and stick his head out the window at the prime hunting times..."see anything?" "Yeah, a big diesel pickup with a dumbass behind the wheel."

Big Buck Dave 12-18-2009 07:12 AM

Well, people enjoying property is one thing. Maybe someone creeping under a fence because the grass is always greener on the otherside is'nt really as bad as some think. And here property owners are protected from law suites as long as a barn doesn't fall on them or they don't fall into an open well. But we actually HAVE to park our vehicles across the driveway, two of them, to keep people from driving down into the fields. One day I was hunting and a guy with a trailer actually drove down into the ditch to go around my vehicle. Be that as it may, the land is subdivided with two coldesacs but the state does not take it over until three lots are sold!

Big Buck Dave 12-18-2009 07:21 AM

And! If you see a Monster Buck "calm" and not given' you the tail, with five does, broadside, within a hundred yards where it is safe to shoot and don't. I have only one word for ya "Failure". It's not like he's out of shape or anything like that, he just choked.........

nchawkeye 12-18-2009 07:40 AM

Count your blessings...You live in a country where you are allowed to hunt...Your health lets you hunt...There are too many good, ethical hunters that you could choose to hunt with...You don't live down South where you have dog hunters dropping dogs off at the road, running deer through your property...

Merry Christmas!!!:)

Big Buck Dave 12-18-2009 07:52 AM

Yes I will always be able to hunt my country. I am Federaly protected! What do you think this is a little island, like England?

bowfly 12-18-2009 07:54 AM

slightly confused, but i guess you choose who hunts with you

Big Buck Dave 12-18-2009 07:58 AM

Aaaahhhhh the dogs. Yes, they get the deer moving. But depending on how warm it is the deer will overheat and die and get eaten by coyotees. If your county had a shortage of deer then they probably would not let you hunt deer with dogs.

Yes, I know. He's a character. On the other hand I don't get any calls from people wanting to hunt with me..............On a different note. After having a crossbow malfunction this year, I noticed the new Bear bows they have out now. I think I'll be getting one before next season.

Your Dad sound just like my Dad!! With the exception of him messing up my hunting. He never does that, if he is gonna sit in his truck he is there before daylight. He sits on stands a lot too, just depends on the weather and how he is feeling.

My Dad stands. That's it. If you think about it, makes perfect sense. When your standing you can see a little farther in the woods. Your mobile, not stuck in a tree. He's from PA. and took this Monster Buck with a Pumpkin Ball on a lot he used to own in Spotsy., 1979.....
Crossing a beaver dam....
"Buckey"
I'm feeling better allready.......Ya I know, he needs a little dusting........

Don't know where you heard that, it's not true...

scribbler444 12-18-2009 09:33 AM

you gotta choose you hunting buddies well I have guys who iv hunted with once and after that never again. I ignore there invites to go in the woods because i dont consider serious hunters like myself. I have 2 hunting buddies my dad and a close friend of mine they both scout properly and only shoots nice deer. Practice proper scent control uses trail cams and do not shoot he first thing that walks by

Horacio 12-18-2009 09:39 AM

I had a phone conversation over lunch with my hunting buddy. Great guy, friend of my wife's from high school so way back. I let him hunt out on our place and he's gotten a little trash horn buck with a bow this season and still holding out for the beat off his trail cam.

The conversation was pretty much "you're a great guy and I like having someone to hunt with but keep your head down because Earl is....well, Earl."

Big Buck Dave 12-18-2009 09:39 AM

Well I will tell you from my mid November hunt. I sit down in this bottom and after about a half hour a squirrel comes out. Nice and cold with anticipation of dogs barking, chasing, way off for a while, lots of shots. One inparticular comes into my area, first I hear the scamper of little hoves on the next ridge. Then the dog haveing a good ol' time. Don't get me wrong I enjoyed it. After they passed I walked to where I had seen a glance of the deer. Nothing. Well then I decided to backtrack. Then low and behold I walked about twenty yards behind where I was sitting, was a doe. I had to take a second look because I had never seen a deer look like that before. It was hunched over breathing so hard I walked up to about five feet away then took two steps back and let it have it! A perfectly healthy doe too. So tired I walked right up to it and there was nothing it could do but lay down and try to catch its' breath. I feel it was a mercy harvest. Nowonder the coyotees are gourging themselves. Don't get me wrong it was an only doe day so after tagging and dragging it a few miles back to the truck to meet my Dad, I felt accomplishment.
O'ya my Dad was not IN the truck, he stayed on the path and I waited for him....

DeerandbearhoG 12-18-2009 09:46 AM

I actually commend your friend for putting that 1 legged deer out of its misery.:happy0001: seriously, if i had to choose between using a tag for a nice buck or a deer thats suffering, Id have to do the right thing.

O' that doe, yes, well, I think he was the one who wounded it like a week earlier, and being the property caretaker he does'nt have to have a license or check'em in anyway........

Them boys kill'em all year..........They don't care, they need something to shoot...............private land, park, don't kid yourself.. Just try and monitor your surroundings that's about all you can do, and teach your youth how to hunt not just kill!

Big Buck Dave 12-18-2009 09:05 PM

I exagerated a little on that last part. He actually had two Father and Son's come out for this years Youth Hunt before bow season. The one boy, nine, got his first doe and the other a little older took a doe but his Dad had to finish it, practice makes perfect. My buddy has a newborn about two months, probably already eat'n deer meat:)!

Big Buck Dave 12-18-2009 09:13 PM

My wife took me to a Christian Christmas concert tonight one of here coworkers was in. It scared me, not in the I'm going to hell sense, but, more like It's been a long time since I've seen that many people all dressed up and nice to each other. Merry Christmas.......Be safe.......

Big Buck Dave 12-18-2009 10:00 PM

Holy@#$%! I was just at 7/11 and saw a guy I know with a pic of a MONSTER BUCK! Killed last year. It looks almost identical to the one my Dad havested in 79. Mass, Hiegth, Width, and Age! And it was taken in the county I am hunting. Niehgboring county to where my Dad got his too! They took photage of the actuall shot but the state did not honor it in their contest because he did the CALL check in! I know it is a Boone and Crocket Buck!
