Trophy White-tail hunts cost more than most exotics. Years ago, I had the opportunity to go bass fishing on the 777 Ranch. It was the middle of the summer and it was a trade off in exchange for some excess material off a road we built nearby. The hunting guides double as fishing guides in the off season and he told me as much.

At the camp house there was this guy who was out hunting that week. He literally thumbed through a catalog and said "oh, I'd like to shoot that one and one of those..." etc. Pretty funny, they guy was in full safari gear that you could practically see the tags on complete with a 12" survival knife strapped to his hip.

We got to see pretty much everything they had (my brother and I) including the remnants of the set where they filmed scenes from the 2nd Ace Ventura movie, heh.

My brother and dad went on a 'canned' hunt like that last weekend. Not quite to that extent but they did have a guide with them that said you can shoot this, you can't shoot that. My brother got a great buck...bigger than the one I'm salivating over on my trail cam and it was a 'management' buck.

For as much as its a high dollar business, alot of big companies maintain properties as perks to employees or to treat clients/customers. That's how my family usually gets invited but I've always passed on the hunts for one reason or another.

To be honest, I'd love to go just once and take a trophy. It wouldn't be as special as some I have and more I would like to but it would be a different experience.

I'd think about the $50,000 check I would have to write if I pulled the trigger.

I'd much rather pull the trigger on one of these and know I did it myself rather than pay someone else to do it for me.

One early season time had me facing 3 bucks that ghosted out of some saplings in the light fog. The sun was just rising... the fog was starting to swirl/lift. It was beautiful.

I looked at all 3 in the scope figuring which one to take. Immediately I thought of a friend who was going to be hunting with me later, so I picked the smallest of the 3, letting my bud have the pick of the remaining 2 should he have the chance later on.

Don't need to shoot the big one to have fun. I just like being out there and I am often passing up deer that another day I would have shot.

The buck was brought back to life with the BUCK GROWL, it was then lured into shooting range with some CODE BLUE, Shot with a RAGE 3 BLADE, from a MATHEWS and brought out of the woods with a BAD BOY BUGGIE. The BUTT OUT TOOL was used then a ALASKAN SKINNING KNIFE.

didnt mean to start a pi$$ing match on here--i got this in a e-mail from my wifes boss and thought it was a nice deer so i thought i would share-i didnt mean to pi$$ all you HUNTERS off--i usuall just look at a picture like this and hope some day to shoot a buck near this caliber and dont do hours of research so i can FLAME someone--next time i'll just read it and delete it so youall dont have to go thru the agrivation of crying about it---

People on the internet do generally like to talk sh*t and bring others down.

However, in this context you have to understand that a lot of commercial high-fence operations will troll around internet forms and post pictures trying to attract business. They always say the deer was shot "this season," and then it turns out that several people remember seeing the same picture 3 or 4 years ago.

People probably thought that is what you were doing.

The B&C score isn't the be all end all thing for most hunters, especially the folks who seem to post on here but still, I think most of us would like to shoot a big buck we could put on our wall and be proud of. I think it certainly fosters a little resentment when people who aren't required to 'care' about hunting, do all the preperation work, sit hours on end in the cold and rain can scratch a check to pick off a buck you'll never, ever see.

We can all say we're just fine doing what we do and getting the buck we work for and really believe it...I'm fine with it, but...if you do things as you do and a monster like that, maybe he got antsy and jumped a high fence somewhere, walks past your tree stand, you're probably going to shoot him and feel pretty dang awesome about it.

Hunters, in their own way, can be an elitist lot. We hunt in locations all over the country, heck continent, with different laws and conditions and others may look at the way you hunt and call it primitive, cheating, silly, whatever. We all despise poachers and road hunters and the like. And, I think there is a certain vitriol pointed at the big business, hunting show, horn porn contingent.

And I'm not saying its right or wrong....it just is what it is.
