Hand gun question

Anyone carry a hand gun when hunting? if so what make & model,
Thanks Doc

I'm pretty sure that is illegal in TN

I carry a Sig P226 in 40S&W, but not because it's an awesome deer handgun, it's just what I normally carry (if anyone wants to donate a 44mag my way, please do!!). I hunt from the ground, and if I get into a situation where there's a deer within 15 yards or so to my right that I want to take, I'll probably use the Sig to take it. To clarify, it would be nearly impossible for me to get into proper position with a long gun to shoot a close deer to my right without alerting it. I would have to swing the thing 180 degrees. With the pistol, I can just slowly extend my right hand.

I've got a T/C Contender "Deer Hunter" package that I hunt with from time to time. It's chambered for .44 Mag and sports a 14" SS ported barrel and topped with a 2-7x32 T/C scope. It is a great gun for whitetail work inside of 100 yards. It's just a nice change once in awhile.

I carry the Ruger GP100 with a 4" barrel, its a the mate to my Marlin lever action carbine that I carry I thick timber. I have taken deer with the pistol.

I hunt with a 460Smith 10.5" performance center and a 44mag Smith.

I can't imagine too many things out there to be scared enough to have to have a semi.

I have the Ruger GP100 with a 6" barrel. I want to use it on a hog or a deer if I get the right situation

have the same exact gun as FLBandit in stainless with black rubber handle grip...LOVE IT! Would love to take a deer with it...only had one opportunity and the deer came across the swamp at bout 100mph when i got it to stop it was 20yrds at about 11oclock and instict was to pull up the .270 and wasnt sure he was gonna stick around for me to pull out my .357...anyways, his rack hangs on my wall...nice 5pt.

I carry several different combos.
Sometimes a rife and a handgun, sometimes two handguns(like a scoped super 14 contender, and 629 44mag with iron sights).
I especially like having a handgun for close quarter/right side shots, that are almost impossible with a rifle.
Also, I have taken a deer through my ladder, when climbing down from the stand, with my rifle on the ground.
When Ive shot one, I'll put my rifle in the truck, and go back with a handgun only.
A lot easier towing a carcass without a rifle, plus, you might get a bonus shot at something.

T/C Encore 7mm-08 stainless. 2x7 scope. Great gun up to 200yds. I was suprised to learn how much of a challenge shooting a pistol scope is. A dead solid rest is necessary.

walther p22
I use it to take a rabbitt or two, to and from the stand.

rybohunter 12-13-2009 01:29 PM

For the past few seasons all I've carried is my 44 mag hunting revolver.

I carry a Ruger SP101 in .357Mag. Don't use it for deer. It's my carry. I have a Ruger Super Redhawk in .44mag that I sometimes use for that.

I only carry during archery season, and it's usually my Ruger LCP.

Having read the story in the 'Hog Hunting' forum, yeah....

I have an SA XD Tactical .45 ACP. Okay, so maybe a little overkill but I'm not getting messed up by an angry pig. Its a newish gun, I've only target shot a little. I keep the clip loaded and in another pocket. Now that I'm hunting with my kids, I'm super, crazy safety conscious....not that carrying around a handgun is all that safe anyway....

Rossi comp. .357 mag

Hey, I got one of those!
Sweet little guns. Target sights, 6 shots, and plenty light.
One of my favorite trail guns.
